Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Community Health Rep.

The Community Health Representative will be responsible for the engagement of participants
in a community-based intervention designed to decrease alcohol and other substance use in
Black communities in New Haven and NYC. He/She will be responsible for providing participant
and program support during the engagement of participants to the interventions through the
use of self-recovery experiences as a part of the service delivery. The Community Health
Representative will attend required trainings offered and interface with key personnel at
churches and community health sites.

Job Responsibilities:

Engage persons who have alcohol use disorder (AUD) and other SUDs or are at risk for
AUD in the research study
Assist participants enrolled in understanding the materials by sharing lived experience
testimonies
Assist participants in securing information about resources, as needed
Engage and participate in the church-based treatment condition.
Assist church health facilitators and other program staff with organizing groups and
graduation events
Provide education and support to participants about supports
Provide education and support to church facilitators, program staff about peer recovery
supports
Assist participants in getting transportation to promote access to the intervention
Assist in the development of peer support aspects of the intervention

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma and minimum of 1 year related experience in an office setting or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Effective Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of related work or volunteer experience in mental health or health field
preferred
Demonstrated ability to support groups and meetings with individuals with a history of
substance use and mental health concerns.
Demonstrated knowledge of health care resources and community-based programs and
knowledge of transportation system.
Demonstrated ability to work one to one with individuals who use alcohol and other
drugs. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, including
individuals with a history of incarceration, people who are houseless, and people with
mental health and trauma experiences. Demonstrated ability to use first-hand lived
experience in this work use of self-recovery experiences from these experiences.
Ability to provide documentation of interactions and experiences with participants
including basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Detailed oriented, ability to multi-task and shift from one research project to another,
demonstrated flexibility and the ability and willingness to learn new skills. Ability to
work collaboratively and independently.
First-hand lived experience as a consumer of behavioral health services, defined as a
person in recovery from mental health and substance use challenges preferred
Recovery Support Specialist Certification; Recovery Coaching Training; Intentional Peer
Support Training or other Peer Trainings preferred

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $26.52 - $33.50 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
