Job Summary

The Security Specialist I is an entry level position made up of three components: Visitor Control Center, Conference Center, and Escorting. The position is responsible for controlling access to several areas of the facilities and ensuring guests and employees know and follow site protocol and procedures. The incumbent is expected to enforce site rules, while maintaining excellent customer service to the client, visitors, and all site employees.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Visitor Control: Perform tasks for verifying clearances and authorizing personnel via the C-CURE/SMS computer system or by contact with the badging office, issue temporary badges, and assist in expediting personnel entering and exiting the facility via access control points.

  • Conference Center: Provide access control to ensure only properly credentialed personnel enter the facility. Generate furniture set-up work requests work requests and monitor facility for cleanliness and initiates work requests for non-functioning items.

  • Escort: Ensure the uncleared personnel to whom they are assigned are always monitored, have no exposure to classified data, have been briefed on prohibited items, and comply with security regulations. Check security badges to verify security clearances. May be assigned as an attendant at an access entry point to ensure only personnel with the proper clearances enter and exit assigned area.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Must be able to access and operate Security Management System (SMS/C-Cure), and Sensitive but Unclassified (SBU) Computer, and printer/scanner.

  • Adhere to contract mandated dress code and provide excellent customer service to all persons at the site.

  • Pass annual internal certification exam.

  • Conduct daily badge inventory and report missing badges. Generate missing badge reports.

  • Screen and brief visitor on NGA prohibited items, COVID attestation, and ensure they sign forms.

  • Contact appropriate personnel to resolve issues.

  • Perform general administrative tasks such as recording time on time sheets, leave requests, etc. Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions and provide appropriate information.

  • Practice good safety habits and is familiar with NGA and ServiceSource safety policy.

  • Open and close alarmed facility using Arming Device and Combination Lock.

  • Check security badges to verify the security clearance and whether an escort is required for entry.

  • Maintain familiarity with NGA Disaster Safety and Emergency Plans.

  • Accompany uncleared visitors while on NGA Campus.

  • Sign visitors in/out of SCIF. Brief visitors on security visit rules/policy.

  • As an escort, provide visitors with Safety information prior to work.

  • Meet visitors at designated location and escort them to authorized area, ensuring they have no access to classified information, and they are always monitored.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience and Certification(s)

  • A high school diploma or state certified equivalent required.

  • 1-year security or related experience required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance with polygraph is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work with people internally and externally at all levels of an organization.

  • Proficient typing skills

  • If not proficiency in Microsoft Office skills, ability to become proficient in Microsoft Office and the ability to become familiar with corporate specific programs and software.

  • Excellent oral/verbal communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented and able to carry out work with the highest levels of accuracy.

  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent time management skills.

  • Candidate must be flexible and adaptable as they may be rotated based on contract need.

Supervision Received

The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear, answer phones, keyboarding, open and close wall dividers, arm and disarm alarms and open and close building combination locks. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit. The employee may occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
