Summary of Job Duties:Advance your research career while exploring the molecular mechanisms that connect ion-channel function, cellular signaling, and cancer cell plasticity. The Kaoud Laboratory in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate how TRPM7 integrates its ion-channel and kinase activities to regulate these processes.

Research Opportunities
We welcome candidates with strong research experience in either protein biochemistry/molecular biology or molecular/cell biology. Prior expertise in both areas is not required. Your research focus and complementary training will reflect your background and interests.

* Protein biochemistry-focused research: Use recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural and biophysical approaches-including cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM)-to investigate TRPM7 channel-kinase regulation.
* Molecular/cell biology-focused research: Investigate TRPM7-dependent cellular and nuclear signaling and channel function using molecular and cellular approaches, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics/phosphoproteomics.

Training in complementary techniques will be provided based on the fellow's background and research interests, including opportunities to learn patch-clamp electrophysiology and work with patient-derived cancer organoid models and animal models.

Scientific Contributions and Mentorship
The fellow will contribute to experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, manuscript preparation, scientific presentations, and grant development. Opportunities will also be available to mentor graduate, professional, and undergraduate students.
You will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment with opportunities to interact with investigators and research cores within the Center for Molecular Interactions in Cancer Research (CMIC) and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Scientific and career development mentoring will support your growth toward research independence.

Appointment and Compensation
- Start date: The position is available immediately, with a negotiable start date.
- Funding: The position is funded for up to three years. Extension beyond three years may be possible, contingent upon continued funding availability and satisfactory performance.
- Salary: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and aligned with NIH postdoctoral stipend guidelines.

Professional and Career Development
The fellow will have access to professional and career development resources through the UAMS Postdoctoral Society.

Eligible candidates will also be encouraged and supported to apply for the 2027 TRI T32 Health Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HSIE) Postdoctoral Training Program. This two-year program provides additional training in innovation, entrepreneurship, team science, and the translation and commercialization of biomedical discoveries. Eligibility for the T32 program is not required for appointment to this position. Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by the start date in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related biomedical discipline.
