About the Department
Perimeter College's Fine Arts Department offers academic pathways in Music, Theatre, Art and Film & Media. Position Description
The Department of Fine Arts of Perimeter College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Music, focusing on music theory instruction. This position offers a dynamic opportunity for an emerging scholar and dedicated educator to join our vibrant community of artists and scholars. This is a teaching-focused position: 80% of the workload is instruction, with service and scholarly and creative activity accounting for 10% each. Perimeter faculty are responsible for providing 27-32 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engaging in service to the department, college, and university. Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in a highly diverse academic setting.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • a D.M.A. or Ph.D. containing either a music theory major or minor or a certificate in music theory pedagogy is preferred. Salary range: $49,082- $54,082
  • Training and experience in one of the following secondary areas: music production, commercial music, jazz studies
  • is preferred
  • College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
  • Experience teaching online and using a distance learning platform.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and/or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods with a demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.
