NPR is seeking a Systems Engineer for its Distribution IT Infrastructure team to manage, test, and maintain our enterprise virtualized infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking systems. In this role, you will deploy, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot modern virtualization platforms (such as VMware vSphere, HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, or Proxmox) to guarantee high availability, scalability, and security across NPR's core distribution technologies. This role sits at the intersection of physical and virtual infrastructure: you will help stand up new data center hardware and build NPR's private cloud environment on top of it, from rack and cable to hypervisor and host networking. Working collaboratively with Infrastructure and Security colleagues, you will analyze business workflows, implement structured change management processes, and support capacity planning initiatives to deliver resilient, mission-critical operations for NPR and our nationwide Member station network. Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, OR equivalent practical work experience. Work Location Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role require duties better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be in the office at the Washington, D.C. location at least 2 days a week. The employee must also reside in an NPR-supported location based on the number of on-site days they choose. Note for hiring manager: With rack build-out in scope, confirm whether 2 days a week is enough or whether more on-site time is expected during installation. Job Type This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation Salary Range: The U.S.-based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $109,350 - $133,650 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations. Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR's benefits options. Benefits include access to health and wellness, paid time off, and financial well-being. Plan options include medical, dental, vision, life/accidental death and dismemberment, long-term disability, short-term disability, and voluntary retirement savings to all eligible NPR employees.
