We are seeking a dependable, experienced, and motivated Janitor to help create a clean, safe, and welcoming high school environment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This union-represented position offers the opportunity to make a visible difference each day for students, staff, and visitors.


Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Follow established facility sanitation and safety standards when performing cleaning duties.
  • Maintain and clean all floor surfaces by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming.
  • Dust, clean, and polish surfaces as required.
  • Collect and dispose of paper, trash, and other waste, and transport it to designated disposal areas.
  • Follow procedures for the safe and proper use of chemical cleaners, cleaning supplies, and equipment, including powered equipment, to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, and other property.
  • Clean windows, glass surfaces, and mirrors using appropriate products and equipment.
  • Help maintain clean, comfortable, and welcoming restrooms, corridors, public areas, and back-of-house spaces throughout the facility.
  • Support a positive learning environment by cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums, stairwells, locker rooms, and other assigned school spaces.
  • Replenish paper products and sanitary supplies as needed.
  • Respond promptly and safely to spills, accidents, and bodily-fluid incidents by following established exposure-control procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
  • Receive deliveries and properly store supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels in janitorial closets and replenish hand towels, soap, and other restroom supplies to ensure availability.
  • Spot-clean rugs and carpets and perform carpet extraction and shampooing as required.
  • Promptly clean areas used by visitors and staff to maintain high sanitation standards.
  • Contribute to a safe, well-maintained campus by identifying and promptly reporting safety hazards, damaged fixtures, maintenance concerns, vandalism, and signs of unauthorized access to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow the housekeeping schedule established by the immediate supervisor.
    Maintain assigned entrances, walkways, loading areas, and other exterior spaces, including removing litter and assisting with snow and ice removal as directed.


Additional or different duties may be assigned as necessary to meet evolving business needs and operational requirements.


REQUIREMENTS



  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • To support a safe school community, the selected candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check, obtain ChildLine clearance, complete FBI fingerprinting, and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Flexibility to support operational needs, including occasional overtime, holidays, weekends, varying or alternative shifts, and severe weather response, is required.
  • Must be able to speak and read English and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
