What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Quality Systems Engineer to develop and implement quality management systems at our Solar site. This position will involve managing technicians (direct reports) for vision automation, production audits and project managing data science deliverables, to achieve quantifiable improvements to the Tesla quality systems. This hands-on role demands dependability, integrity, and a servant leadership approach to empower site teams while upholding our uncompromising high bar on safety, quality, and standards. Expect travel, cross-functional collaboration, and a focus on continuous improvement in a sustainable, people-first culture.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support development of Solar energy systems to meet defined specifications and quality standards with suppliers and production processes
- Architect advanced integrated quality systems leveraging real-time data from Tesla's manufacturing platforms
- Champion continuous improvement and first principles thinking to evolve systems beyond baseline requirements
- Manage and mentor technicians who perform select system audits, ensuring consistent execution, reporting and problem solving
- Conduct audits on compliance, system effectiveness, and performance, identifying gaps and driving corrective actions
- Develop feedback loops, CAPA processes, and metrics monitoring to resolve issues proactively and prevent recurrence
- This role requires travel to supplier and production sites as needed
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure preparedness for external regulatory audits (e.g. ISO 9001, compliance) and customer visits
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
- ASQ or Six Sigma certification are preferred
- Experience in Solar manufacturing preferred
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience
- Specific training and demonstrated success in applying design for quality and problem solving methodologies, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc.
- Strong background and demonstrated success applying statistical methods
- Minitab, JMP or other statistical software capabilities are preferred
- Data mining and database (e.g. MySQL) experience
- Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills
