Position Overview

McGough is seeking MEP and commissioning project management professionals to support the planning, coordination, execution, and successful delivery of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and specialty building systems on complex construction projects.

This is a multi-level requisition for MEP/Cx Assistant Project Manager and MEP/Cx Project Manager opportunities. The appropriate level will be determined during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, demonstrated capabilities, and project needs, and will be disclosed at the time of offer.

Depending on level, this role will support or lead engineered systems coordination from conceptual design and preconstruction through construction, commissioning, closeout, and project handover. Responsibilities increase in scope, independence, technical leadership, and decision-making authority by level-from coordinating assigned systems and trade scopes to leading the overall MEP/Cx effort for complex projects.

All levels are responsible for building strong relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, commissioning partners, vendors, and internal project teams while supporting McGough's commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, client service, and the McGough Way.


Qualifications Required

MEP/CX Assistant Project Manager

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of applicable experience in engineering design, facility management or operations, construction management, or related work
  • Basic understanding of the design, installation, and operation of engineered systems for mission-critical, healthcare, educational, laboratory, industrial, advanced manufacturing, commercial, or similarly complex projects
  • Working knowledge of commercial building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and controls
  • Ability to coordinate multiple project tasks and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

MEP/CX Project Manager

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in MEP engineering design, facility management or operations, construction management, or related work
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, controls, and specialty building systems
  • Demonstrated experience with the design, installation, operation, or construction management of engineered systems for complex projects such as mission-critical facilities, semiconductor fabrication plants, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, central power or cooling plants, water or wastewater facilities, advanced manufacturing, or similar technically complex projects
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, budgeting, procurement, commissioning, and project controls
  • Demonstrated ability to lead MEP/Cx coordination, resolve complex technical issues, and manage relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

Preferred
  • Experience supporting mission-critical, healthcare, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, industrial, advanced manufacturing, or other technically complex construction projects
  • Experience with Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, or Integrated Project Delivery projects
  • Ability to navigate Revit and AutoCAD documents
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam Revu, Revizto, or Autodesk Construction Cloud
  • Experience developing project estimates and supporting preconstruction services
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • LEED, WELL, commissioning, or similar industry certification
  • Professional Engineer registration, as applicable to position level and discipline

Office & Travel

Onsite at Project. This position supports McGough's National Travel - Advanced Technology business and may be assigned to projects throughout the United States with your desired location taken into consideration.


Responsibilities and Tasks

Responsibilities will vary by position level, with increasing ownership, independence, decision-making authority, project complexity, and leadership expectations.

Preconstruction, Design Review & Procurement
  • Participate in or lead constructability reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and design page-turns
  • Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents for owner requirements, applicable codes, constructability, coordination, industry standards, and project objectives
  • Support or lead the identification of design issues, scope gaps, value-engineering opportunities, cost reductions, and system optimization strategies
  • Assist with or lead development of MEP/CX bid packages, bid instructions, technical scopes of work, and procurement strategies
  • Support evaluation of subcontractor qualifications, technical capabilities, and cost proposals
  • Identify long-lead equipment and develop procurement strategies that support project milestones
  • Support project estimating, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, and project execution planning
  • Assist in or lead development of commissioning, startup, and turnover strategies
  • Participate in project pursuits, client interviews, and technical presentations as appropriate
Construction-Phase Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate or lead MEP subcontractors, specialty trade partners, vendors, and design professionals throughout construction
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, substitution requests, change management, and technical documentation for assigned scopes
  • Review shop drawings, technical submittals, and engineering documentation for completeness and compliance with contract requirements
  • Coordinate procurement activities and monitor material and equipment deliveries
  • Facilitate or participate in coordination meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, commissioning partners, and internal project teams
  • Identify and resolve technical, constructability, coordination, and installation challenges while minimizing schedule and budget impacts
  • Monitor construction progress, installation quality, and compliance with project requirements
  • Support implementation of project safety, quality, and commissioning programs
  • Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships through proactive communication and responsive service
Scheduling, Cost & Project Controls
  • Support or manage project schedules, detailed breakout schedules, startup schedules, and recovery plans appropriate to position level
  • Track system installation, procurement, energization, testing, commissioning, and turnover milestones
  • Identify schedule risks and coordinate corrective actions with project and field teams
  • Assist with or manage project budgets, forecasts, cost reports, change management, and financial performance for assigned MEP/Cx scopes
  • Monitor scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk and communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders
Commissioning, Startup & Closeout
  • Support or lead development and execution of commissioning and startup plans for engineered systems
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with project teams, commissioning agents, equipment manufacturers, subcontractors, vendors, and facility personnel
  • Provide technical support or oversight during equipment startup, functional testing, testing and balancing, and system validation
  • Support coordination of controls systems, including instrumentation and controls, building automation systems, supervisory control and data acquisition, and energy management systems
  • Track completion of punch-list items and closeout requirements
  • Review operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, and closeout documentation for accuracy, completeness, and contract compliance
  • Coordinate owner training, turnover, post-occupancy activities, and warranty resolution
Project & Team Leadership
  • Partner with Operations, Preconstruction, Safety, Quality, VDC, Business Development, and field leadership to achieve project objectives
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and other team members as appropriate
  • Delegate responsibilities with appropriate oversight and accountability based on position level
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing project environment focused on safety, quality, innovation, and client satisfaction
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, development, and knowledge sharing within project and engineering teams
  • Participate in internal leadership development, continuing education, and professional certification opportunities
Operational Excellence & Other Responsibilities
  • Support or lead implementation of company engineering standards, best practices, and continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Maintain knowledge of developing technologies, market trends, and industry practices
  • Capture lessons learned and share technical knowledge across project teams
  • Support technical training for project management and site staff
  • Represent McGough in meetings with clients, design partners, subcontractors, consultants, vendors, and industry organizations
  • Participate as an active member of the Engineering Services Team
  • Support organizational initiatives that improve project delivery, quality, safety, innovation, and client satisfaction
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project and organizational success

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
