The Pharmacy Manager provides leadership to promote effective formulary management for the organization through evidence-based medication selection, cost containment strategies, and implementation of safe and effective therapeutic alternatives. The manager represents the department and medical center on committees and task forces related to these programs including but not limited to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, and related subcommittees and task forces. This individual works with and manages pharmacy personnel who conduct the day-to-day activities that support medication policy, formulary management and drug shortage programs. The manager is responsible for supervision, staff development and assessment of staff competency. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer and other members of the pharmacy management team with planning, implementing and monitoring new programs, processes and technologies that enhance medication use systems, optimize patient outcomes, control drug expenses and maintain compliance with regulatory standards and formulary best practices. #CA-DS

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.
- California Pharmacy License or license eligible. If license eligible, must obtain and provide California Pharmacy License within six months of hire.
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from an accredited college or university, or equivalent training
- Completion of Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) training at an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited program, or 5 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
- Three (3) years of work experience in Academic Medical Center (AMC) pharmacy operations or administration
- Project management experience for operational and strategic projects
- Experience supporting formulary management, medication-use policy development, drug shortage management, medication stewardship, or Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committee activities
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, mentoring, precepting or coordinating professional pharmacy staff or learners
- Demonstrated knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements affecting medication management (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, California Board of Pharmacy)
- Demonstrated knowledge of formulary management principles and medication-use evaluation methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) committee processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of drug shortage mitigation strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of medication-use policy development and implementation
- Demonstrated knowledge of pharmacoeconomic analysis and medication cost containment strategies
- Demonstrated ability to analyze medication utilization and financial data
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary projects and process improvement efforts
- Demonstrated ability to present recommendations effectively to executive leaders and clinical committees
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a complex academic medical center environment

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
