As part of one of the nation's largest power distribution organizations, we support customers across utilities, power generation, manufacturing, data centers, commercial facilities, and renewable energy. We are seeking a Field Service Engineer with strong electrical and/or mechanical aptitude who enjoy solving complex problems, working independently, and providing exceptional customer service. This position offers a high degree of variety and autonomy, along with hands-on experience working with electrical power distribution systems throughout the Northeast.
- Perform on-site maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical power distribution equipment.
- Conduct protective relay testing independently and as part of a team.
- Manage engineering and field service projects ranging from smaller assignments to large-scale customer initiatives.
- Apply engineering principles, applicable codes, and industry standards to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical systems.
- Provide technical support, quality control, project documentation, and reporting.
- Read, interpret, and analyze power system wiring diagrams, including DC elementary drawings.
- Apply a strong theoretical understanding of electricity to diagnose issues and develop practical solutions.
- Coordinate work at customer sites and resolve technical or operational issues as they arise.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, coworkers, and leadership.
- Maintain a strong focus on customer service, follow-up, organization, and time management.
- Follow all electrical safety procedures and actively promote a safe work environment.
Work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, with occasional overnight travel.
- Associate degree or higher in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Ability to read, interpret, and analyze electrical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, short-circuit analysis, coordination studies, and arc-flash hazards/NFPA 70E is preferred.
- Experience testing electromechanical and/or digital protective relays is highly desirable.
- AutoCAD experience is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a field environment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Strong organizational, logistical, written, and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NETA Level II certification or higher.
- Familiarity with NETA acceptance and maintenance testing procedures.
- Experience with protective relaying applications and field testing.
- Prior field service, electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems engineering experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely work in electrical power distribution environments, including industrial facilities, substations, utility sites, and customer locations.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods while performing field work.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated areas, as required by the job site.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, testing equipment, and materials weighing up to 75 pounds, with assistance as needed.
- Ability to use hand tools and testing equipment requiring manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and arc-rated/flame-resistant clothing.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other conditions typical of field service work.
- Ability to safely perform job duties in accordance with applicable electrical safety requirements and company procedures.
