Position Summary: An intern supports the Construction Management department by assisting with a variety of tasks, including special project assignments and active participation in project construction and documentation, to gain practical experience and support their educational development. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Assist qualified field inspectors with standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.
- Perform or assist with routine field tests on concrete, soils, aggregates, and other construction materials after receiving appropriate instruction and while working under qualified supervision.
- Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
- Gathers and maintains record documents
- Makes field notes and computations
- Assist project staff with tracking RFIs, organizing submittals and shop drawings, and compiling information for review by the responsible engineer or project manager.
- Observe and learn how project teams coordinate temporary traffic control, construction sequencing, utility activities, and work-zone documentation.
- Assist with project updates, photographs, presentations, and other communication materials.
- Follow established quality control procedures and ask questions as needed
- Learn and apply department and company standards and best practices
- Develop technical skills through hands-on experience
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with team members
- Receive guidance and direction from supervisors and team leaders
- Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, contractors, clients, utility representatives, and other multidisciplinary team members

- Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
- Valid Driver's License
- High school graduate or currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a related field
- Full-time student currently pursuing an ABET accredited undergraduate degree in civil engineering or construction management with an interest in transportation projects
Work is performed in the field and within a general office environment. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
