Description

The school is seeking a caring, dependable, and engaging Interim Teacher for Middle School English to provide continuity of instruction and support for students during an extended teacher absence. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the classroom teacher's established lesson plans, maintaining a positive and orderly learning environment, and supporting students academically, socially, and spiritually within the mission and culture of the school.

A bachelor's degree is required; the degree does not need to be in English or Education. A background or demonstrated experience in literacy, reading, writing, language arts, tutoring, education, or working with middle school students is preferred.

The ideal candidate will appreciate and support the mission of an independent Christian school and understand the importance of contributing positively to the school community.

Essential Responsibilities



  • Follow and effectively implement the classroom teacher's lesson plans, curriculum, assignments, and instructional expectations.
  • Provide clear instruction and guidance to students in middle school English/Language Arts.
  • Support students in developing skills in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, communication, and critical thinking.
  • Facilitate classroom activities, discussions, independent work, projects, and assessments as outlined by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Establish positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate classroom boundaries and expectations.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records as required.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate relevant observations or concerns to school leadership and/or the classroom teacher.
  • Grade or provide feedback on student work when requested and according to the teacher's established expectations.
  • Manage classroom routines, transitions, and student behavior in accordance with school policies.
  • Ensure students understand daily expectations, assignments, deadlines, and classroom procedures.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians when directed by school administration.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and school leadership to provide consistency and continuity for students.
  • Uphold school policies, procedures, standards of conduct, and expectations for student safety and supervision.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, chapel, or other school community activities as requested.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and contribute to a Christ-centered classroom and school environment.

The Interim Teacher is expected to support and respect the Christian mission, values, and culture of the school and to contribute positively to the broader school community. The teacher should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, kindness, and respect in interactions with students, families, faculty, and staff.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working within a faith-based educational environment and supporting the school's expectations regarding Christian character, student formation, and community life.

Qualifications

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or similar setting.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage a middle school classroom.
  • Ability to follow established curriculum, lesson plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and staff.
  • Support for the mission and values of an independent Christian school.


Preferred:



  • Background or experience in literacy, reading, writing, English/Language Arts, education, tutoring, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching or working with middle school students.
  • Familiarity with middle school English/Language Arts curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Experience in a private, independent, or faith-based school environment.
  • Experience providing long-term or interim classroom coverage.

Physical & Professional Requirements
