Description

Clark College is currently accepting applications for two full-time, permanent classified overtime eligible Custodian 3 positions in the Facilities Services department. The Custodian 3 serves as a working lead and provides day-to-day direction and support to custodial staff while performing a full range of custodial duties. This position helps ensure college facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming condition for students, employees, and visitors. This position is scheduled to work 5 days a week, Thursday through Monday, 5:00pm to 1:30am. However, due to the business needs of the College, the final work hours may change. If so, the successful hire will be notified upon hire in writing with the final scheduled hours. The position is 100% in-person at the main Clark College campus.

Position Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise, direct, and instruct employees in cleaning and housekeeping duties in a variety of different facilities.
  • Schedule and assign work to employees; inspect and report areas cleaned.
  • Assign and coordinate daily custodial work.
  • Monitor quality and completion of tasks.
  • Assist with training and provide guidance to custodial employees.
  • Communicate operational needs with custodial management.
  • Perform custodial duties such as vacuum, mop, dust, and garbage/recycling removal.
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, common areas, and restrooms.
  • Operate custodial equipment including automatic scrubber, buffer, carpet extractor, vacuum, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Identify and report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns.
  • Proper use of chemicals, PPE, and safety procedures.
  • Provide lead coverage when custodial management is not present.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:

  • Two (2) years of professional custodial, janitorial, or facilities related work experience.
  • Valid and current drivers license.
  • Valid and current automobile insurance.
  • Knowledge of SDS requirements, chemical handling, PPE, and workplace safety practices.
  • Experience with commercial floor-care equipment, including automatic scrubbers, buffers/burnishers, carpet extractors, and related equipment.
  • Experience training employees, conducting quality inspections, coordinating work assignments, responding to staffing or operational needs, and performing minor troubleshooting or preventative maintenance on custodial equipment.
JOB READINESS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, communicate effectively, and provide guidance or direction to others.
  • Knowledge of proper use of custodial chemicals and custodial power equipment.
  • The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
  • This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted which includes a sexual misconduct background check as required under RCW 28B.112.080. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

Salary Range: $3,485-$4,633/month| Step A-M (commensurate with qualifications and experience) | Range: 38 | Code: 678K

Successful candidates typically start at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases.
