Phlebotomist I
Location: KY1019 - USA - KY - Louisville - 2301 Terra Crossing Boulevard
Duration- 4 months
Shift Hours: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.
Job Summary
The main function of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities


  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, update patient information, and perform other assigned duties.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, as required.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature.
  • Place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube.
  • Accurately label specimens and follow procedures specific to the required protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0-2 years of experience.


Additional Position Details

  • Daily Draw Volume: 20-30 draws.
  • Work Environment: Collect specimens from pediatric to geriatric patients.
  • Location Type: IOP location.
  • Specialty: Must be able to draw all ages.
  • Work Arrangement: Will be working as part of a team.
  • Training: 1st week.


Required Skills

  1. Draw blood specimens and register patients.
  2. At least 6 months of diagnostic phlebotomy experience.
  3. Maintain accurate patient/specimen logs.
  4. Comfortable working as a team and as an individual.
  5. Good communication skills.


Preferred Skills

  1. Patient-centered care skills.
  2. Diagnostic background.
