We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Telecommunications Technician II to join our team. This position will be responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex telecommunications systems. Your expertise in telecommunications equipment, network infrastructure, and communication protocols will be crucial to ensuring efficient, reliable telecommunications services. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team. This is an on-site position at the University of Arizona Tucson Campus. The position participates in an on-call rotation for one week at a time, rotating among staff, and requires driving to other campus buildings for about one hour per day. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position. | Duties & Responsibilities |
- Perform installations of network equipment and components on complex and/or large-scale deployments to UITS standards and specifications.
- Track and document labor and material resources in the UITS telecom management system to ensure onsite work performed and material deployed follow the project's statement of work.
- Perform structured cabling installations and maintain the UITS wireless network.
- Coordinate new equipment activations and/or planned network outages for equipment upgrades.
- Develop and maintain reliable and accurate post facility records.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of installation and best practices related to network infrastructure installation work.
- Knowledge of physical network infrastructure installation work including structured cabling, interconnects, and cross connects, as well as industry standards and best practices as they relate to installation work.
- Skill in the use and operation of test equipment and software.
- Ability to physically install and configure equipment, connections, wiring, and cable working from layouts or plans.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including management, network engineers, physical plant engineers, financial management, and end-users.
- Proficiency in utilization of personal computers and office productivity applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams, and Zoom.
- Knowledge of UITS infrastructure and the locations of UITS Telecom Rooms.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in dusty areas.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to crawl above ceilings and below sub-floors.
- Ability to work on rooftops.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Active Panduit Network Infrastructure Cable Deploy certification.
- Experience with University of Arizona standards for construction (Manual of Design and Specification Standards).
- Experience navigating the UArizona campus, including building locations and campus parking.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses.Thesereports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims.
