Position Overview

The University of Kansas Speech-Language Hearing Department is building an instructor pool of qualified applicants to serve as either part-time or full-time, non-tenure track members of faculty. Teaching assignments may include undergraduate and/or graduate courses offered on the Lawrence campus, off campus programs, and/or online programs.

Amount of work required can vary by position and will range in FTE.

The Instructor is an instructional, adjunct faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the Spring 2027 semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to acollective bargaining agreementbetween The University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AFT-AAUP, AFL-CIO; UAKU is the exclusive bargaining representative. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.


Job Description
100% Instruction Duties:
  • Duties include but are not limited to: instruction in the specified field, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising, students, and holding regular office hours.
  • Teaching one or more courses in Speech-Language Hearing. Courses may be required or electives in undergraduate or graduate programs and range from 1-4 credit hours.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to departmental, school/college, and university policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
For instruction of Undergraduate-Level Courses:
  1. MA in Speech Language Pathology/clinical doctorate in audiology or relevant field OR BA in a relevant discipline & 5 years of related experience
For instruction of Graduate-Level Courses:
  1. Master's in Speech Language Pathology OR Master's in relevant discipline and 7 years of related experience.
  2. Record of research, scholarship or achievement in discipline.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. SLPD or Ph.D. or AUD or MA-SLP in Speech-Language-Pathology or Audiology or related discipline.
  2. Evidence or testimony regarding excellent teaching ability at the university level.
  3. Experience teaching Speech-Language-Hearing content.
  4. Evidence or testimony regarding excellent teaching ability at the university level.
