| Job Duties |
ECU Health Physicians and East Carolina University's Department of Surgery, located in Greenville, North Carolina, are seeking a General Surgeon with advanced training and expertise in Comprehensive Endocrine Surgery to join the Division of General and Specialty Surgery at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. This position will report to the division chief of General and Specialty Surgery. This role will expand an established endocrine surgery program with substantial thyroid and parathyroid volume, serving a 29-county referral region in eastern North Carolina, and will have the opportunity to develop new clinical initiatives. This will be a full-time faculty position offering an opportunity to join a collaborative team of surgeons and advanced practice providers committed to delivering outstanding patient care across a wide-ranging population. The position will also perform comprehensive general and endocrine surgery, play a major role in educating medical students, residents, and fellows, and enjoy opportunities for impactful research.
The Department of Surgery hosts a six-year general surgery residency program with six categorical residents each year who are competitively prepared for fellowships, academic positions, and direct entry into private practice.
Opportunity Highlights:
- Hospital privileges at ECU Health Medical Center, eastern North Carolina's only level 1 trauma center;
- Established division inclusive of academic surgeons performing general, bariatric, hernia, foregut, endocrine surgery, and advanced endoscopy;
- Academic responsibilities will include mentorship and teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows;
- Active, collaborative clinical, teaching and research program;
- Fixed-term or tenure-track faculty positions are available;
- Access to the ECU Health Surgicenter.
While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.

- MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution and conferred by the time of hire, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification;
- Completed fellowship training in endocrine surgery;
- Board certified or board eligible in general surgery;
- Eligible for the Adult Complex Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery Focused Practice Designation.
