Organizational Unit Overview
Academic Affairs, led by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, comprises the university's colleges, schools, and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units. The College of Engineering and Technology ( CET) combines experiential education, applied research, and industry engagement to support faculty scholarship and student success. CET offers a collaborative and collegial environment that values mentorship and excellence in teaching and scholarship, while providing faculty opportunities to contribute to workforce development and regional impact.
Established in 1984, the Department of Construction Management offers ACCE-accredited Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Construction Management and provides a strong foundation in applied construction education integrating research, innovation, and professional practice with a strategic focus on digital construction and emerging technologies. Supported by an active industry advisory board and strong industry partnerships, the department is offering an ideal environment for faculty to build impactful research programs and contribute to the future of construction management education and practice.
Job Duties
The Department of Construction Management is seeking a full-time Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor position, with an anticipated start date of January 2027. This is a 9-month, academic-year appointment with a potential supplementary summer teaching opportunity. The initial appointment will be for three semesters (Spring 2027 through academic year 2027-2028) and then will be renewed subject to annual performance reviews.
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, student engagement, and curriculum development. Responsibilities include:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in core construction management areas, with a teaching load appropriate for a teaching-focused appointment. Instructional areas may include construction estimating, construction scheduling, surveying, construction materials, Building Information Modeling (BIM), cost control, equipment management, construction economics, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, delivered in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve curriculum, course content, student learning outcomes, and instructional materials to ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide academic advising and student mentorship, including guidance on career pathways and facilitation of experiential learning opportunities such as internships, co-ops, and industry-sponsored projects.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with industry partners, supporting student placement opportunities and integrating real-world applications into teaching and learning activities.
  • Contribute to service at the department, college, university, and professional levels, including participation in committees, program assessment, accreditation efforts, and student organizations.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff to foster a team-oriented, student-centered academic environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the department's mission.

Minimum Education/Experience
Earned master's degree (Teaching Instructor) or doctoral degree (Teaching Assistant Professor) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching capability or relevant professional experience in construction management or a closely related discipline.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Five or more years of combined teaching and relevant industry experience at the project management level, preferably in the United States.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level in construction management or a related field.
  • Experience with curriculum development and continuous improvement, including alignment with accreditation standards (e.g., ACCE).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain industry partnerships, including support for internships and workforce development.
  • Familiarity with emerging construction technologies and their integration into teaching (e.g., BIM, AI, AR/VR).
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
