The Department of World Languages and Cultures at NC State provides students with a broad and intimate understanding of the rich and varied cultures of our globe-understanding that is built on solid competence of spoken and written skills in the language(s) you choose.
At the undergraduate level, the Department offers students the opportunity to major in the following programs of study leading to the B.A. degree: Arabic Studies, Asian Language, French, German Studies, and Spanish. Students who are eager to make teaching their career can pursue the B.A. Degree in French or Spanish Education. We also offer minors in the following: Arabic (through Middle Eastern Studies), Chinese, Classics (Greek and Latin), French, German Studies, Hindu/Urdu, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. In addition, we teach classes in Korean, Portuguese, and English as a second language.
At the graduate level, we have an M.A. program in World Languages and Cultures with three separate concentrations: one in French, one in Spanish and one in
TESOL. Each of the concentrations incorporates literature, linguistics, and culture courses. |

| Essential Job Duties |
The Department of World Languages & Cultures at NC State University seeks applicants with demonstrable teaching excellence and ongoing commitment to undergraduate Greek and Latin language instruction as well as the ability to teach courses in classical literature and culture in translation. We especially seek applicants who are interested in developing innovative pedagogical strategies and reimagining the goals and methods of Classical Studies to embrace the needs and concerns of students across a broad range of majors in a large, land-grant state institution. The teaching load is 4/4, with a variety of in-person and asynchronous online courses. The ideal candidate will also be qualified to help with recently implemented courses and study abroad programs in Italy and Greece, assist with plans for secondary Latin education in North Carolina, and develop stronger ties with the Greek community in the Triangle. |
