The Department of Political Science has an research active faculty and a reputation for
excellence in teaching. There are typically around 600 undergraduate students enrolled in
the Political Science major. The
MIS program graduates about 25 young professionals each year
and places them in international careers in government service, the non-profit sector,
education, and other fields.
The School of Public and International Affairs (
SPIA), in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at NC State, also houses the Department of Public Administration, (with a PA PhD program and a
MPA), the Public Safety Leadership Initiative, and the Leadership in the Public Sector degree completion program. |

| Essential Job Duties |
The Department of Political Science, in the School of Public and International Affairs (
SPIA)
at North Carolina State University (NC State), invites applications for a tenure-track position at
the assistant professor level, beginning August 2027.
We seek highly qualified candidates with a research focus and teaching interests in the
politics of Latin American states and the region. Teaching responsibilities will be at the graduate
and undergraduate level in the department's Master of International Studies (
MIS) program as
well as Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Political Science.
The applicant must be able to develop coursework in Latin American politics at the graduate level for our
MIS program and be able to teach undergraduate course(s) on the politics and political issues relevant to Latin America as a region and/or specific countries in that region of the world.
Scholars with interests in comparative political institutions, comparative political economy, security, energy, climate change, sustainability, social policy, environmental policy and/or democratization are particularly encouraged to apply. |

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science, International Affairs, or related field. |

Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence, strong research and publication skills, and future
research productivity. |
| Preferred Qualifications |
Teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.
