Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The NCCU School of Law Library provides information services and resources that promote the performance of high-quality legal research activities by our faculty, students, staff and community.
The law library reference department has primary responsibility for providing legal research instruction and reference services to students, faculty, alumni and public patrons.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Law Library Director provides leadership and oversight of the Law Library's operations, resources, personnel, and services in support of the School of Law's academic mission.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Comprehensive knowledge of legal research methods, legal information resources, law library operations, and emerging research technologies.
2. Knowledge of law school accreditation standards and professional standards applicable to academic law libraries.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and effectively manage library personnel, operations, budgets, collections, and services.
4. Strong knowledge of electronic databases, digital resources, library technology, and information-management systems.
5. Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement policies, procedures, programs, and services that support the academic mission of the law school.
6. Strong teaching and instructional skills, including the ability to support legal research instruction and student development.
7. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
8. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, administrators, staff, and external partners.
9. Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional and support staff.
10. Ability to assess evolving legal education, research, technology, and library trends and implement appropriate innovations.
11.Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
12. Commitment to excellent service and supporting faculty scholarship, student learning, bar readiness, and professional preparation.
Minimum Education/Experience
J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
J.D. or equivalent legal degree required

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
The Faculty will develop and design curriculum plans to foster learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. The Faculty will provide tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintain class related records, and assess student coursework. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.


Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
The Faculty will conduct research in a particular field of knowledge, and publish findings in professional journals, books, and/or electronic media. Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues. Keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participate in professional conferences.


Function Public Service
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Serve on various Law School and University committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues. Participate in campus and community events.
