NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering stresses the application of science and engineering, mathematical analysis, and computer techniques to biomedical problems. The research and entrepreneurship of the faculty, students, and staff aim to accumulate, generate, and disseminate biomedical engineering knowledge to improve health care for the benefit of the people of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. |
| Position Summary |
The Lampe
UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking applicants for a Teaching Assistant / Associate Professor in any area related to department specializations with priority given to bioinstrumentation, biomechanics and biologics-based design. This is a professional track faculty position with a focus on teaching and education. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
-Delivery of lectures that cover the course objectives as stated on the course syllabus following the dates of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and NC State University calendars for the given semester.
-Assessment of student performance including exams, projects, laboratory assignments and/or homework assignments as outlined on the course syllabus.
-If the course contains a lab section, overseeing the laboratory component to guarantee appropriate content of lab exercises and coordination of the lab with the lecture.
-All other responsibilities associated with teaching the course including grading exams, papers and projects in a timely manner and providing help to students during scheduled office hours.
-If a teaching assistant is provided, provide supervision to the teaching assistant and coordinate assignments not exceeding the workload of the teaching assistant.
-The instructional load for this position will be 2 to 3 courses per semester for a total of 4 to 6 courses taught each academic year. Employment will be through
UNC-Chapel Hill, but some courses may be taught on the NC State campus. Candidates with a proven history of publication and acquisition of funding for the scholarship of teaching and learning may lead new initiatives in the scholarship of teaching and learning and work with other faculty to support their pedagogical investigations and publications in lieu of one course per year.
-The individual must work productively and in a collaborative manner across all constituent
BME entities, i.e. University of North Carolina College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the NC State University College of Engineering.
This position will conduct service in areas of need. This may include mentoring junior faculty, mentoring students or student organizations, developing study abroad programs, participating in assessment activities, curriculum development and/or academic advising. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
PhD in Biomedical Engineering, or related field. For an Associate level, a minimum of six consecutive years of full-time service as a Teaching Assistant Professor (or equivalent) along with documented evidence of distinguished teaching and service is required. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Record of publication in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
History of acquiring external funding to support the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. |
