Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Linguistics is an undergraduate and graduate academic unit in the College of Arts and Sciences whose primary purpose is to make new discoveries concerning the nature and history of human languages and to communicate the results of the field through teaching, research, and service. The Department offers undergraduate and masters programs in linguistics, with emphasis on phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language acquisition, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics, and historical linguistics, and a joint MA/PhD program in Hispanic Linguistics in conjunction with the Department of Romance Studies.
Position Summary
The Department of Linguistics is recruiting for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Syntax/Semantics and Language Documentation. The responsibilities of this position include maintaining an active research program, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, advising undergraduate honors theses and MA theses, and contributing service to the department and/or university. This position carries our regular teaching load for faculty with an active research agenda: two courses per semester.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Candidates must have a PhD in Linguistics or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Research expertise in syntax, semantics, or the syntax/semantics interface, along with experience in language documentation and/or linguistic fieldwork sufficient to advise student thesis projects in documentation or fieldwork.
