Summer Internship Program Overview

First Merchants internship opportunities are available in a variety of business areas including Credit Administration, Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking, Treasury Management, Private Wealth, Technology, Human Resources, Marketing, Risk, Operations, and other business functions.

Department Internship Duties & Responsibilities

The Corporate Social Responsibility Intern will support the team through day-to-day responsibilities, projects, and initiatives that contribute to department goals.

Below is what you can expect to learn from an internship in our Corporate Social Responsibility at First Merchants Bank:




  1. Program Management:



    • Support volunteer engagement campaigns, financial wellness initiatives, and community partnerships
    • Assist with planning and logistics for the 2026 CSR Colloquium, and regional service events
    • Help manage internal communications, social media content, and impact storytelling



  2. CRA Compliance and Administration



    • Compile, clean, and validate data for CRA performance tracking
    • Assist with documentation and reporting for CRA exam readiness
    • Conduct research on CRA-eligible organizations and community needs



  3. Community Home Lending (Putting People in Homes)



    • Support outreach and reporting for affordable housing initiatives
    • Assist with data collection and impact summaries for homeownership programs



  4. Community Business Lending (Access to Capital)



    • Research small business development trends and community lending opportunities
    • Provide administrative and coordination support to Community Business Bankers.
    • Support engagement with nonprofit partners and economic development organizations



  5. Key Projects May Include



    • Community Impact Dashboard: Data input, validation, and visual storytelling
    • System/Platform Optimization: Usage analysis, reporting, and support ticket tracking
    • Financial Wellness Toolkit: Content development and digital resource support
    • CRA Data Compilation: Aggregating and organizing data for internal and external reporting
    • Volunteer Campaigns: Coordinating regional service events and tracking participation

In addition to the learning objectives, all interns will participate in a coordinated community service project. Interns will have an opportunity to network with Executive and Senior Leadership at our Intern Meet & Greet event and will present a summary of their experience at the conclusion of the internship program.

Required Qualifications



  • Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
  • Be available to work 40 hours per week from May 17th- August 6th, 2027.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Have demonstrated interest in the industry and/or specific area of interest.
  • Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.
