THE POSITION:
-
The Agency is seeking a forward-thinking, solutions-driven Senior Engineer to lead the Technical Services Group within the Asset Management Unit and support the reliability, efficiency, and long-term sustainability of the Agency's infrastructure and facilities. We're looking for someone who is strategic, analytical, and collaborative and can apply sound engineering judgment to complex operational and asset-related challenges.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in water and wastewater treatment, engineering analysis, project management, and technical problem solving, along with an understanding of asset management principles such as asset condition, performance, criticality, risk, reliability, and lifecycle planning. This position will support Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Asset Management through engineering studies, failure and root cause analysis, equipment and technology evaluations, technical recommendations and standards, and support for capital and maintenance planning. Familiarity with treatment processes, mechanical and electrical systems, and facility operations is essential, as the role will help translate operational needs and engineering data into practical, sustainable solutions.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering, and at least ten years of
focused
engineering experience, or six years of progressively responsible
diversified
engineering and project management experience, preferably in a wastewater/water utility, four years of which were at the level of IEUA's Senior Associate Engineer-PE; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

- Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, support performance development, and promote a high-performance, safety-focused culture centered on infrastructure reliability and continuous improvement.
- Skilled at building collaborative relationships and communicating complex technical information effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to support asset management and infrastructure planning initiatives.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound engineering judgment in evaluating treatment processes, equipment performance, operational issues, asset condition, reliability, risk, and lifecycle needs while aligning recommendations with organizational goals and priorities.
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities to investigate equipment and process issues, perform root cause and failure analyses, evaluate technical alternatives, and develop practical, cost-effective recommendations that improve reliability, optimize performance, and support long-term asset sustainability.
- Experience providing technical engineering support for water and wastewater infrastructure, including engineering studies, equipment and technology evaluations, condition assessments, lifecycle analysis, capital improvement planning, maintenance and reliability strategies, and the use of computerized maintenance management and enterprise asset management systems.

The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is a regional wastewater treatment agency and wholesale distributor of imported water to approximately 950,000 people across 242-square miles in western San Bernardino County. This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) vacancy and will establish an eligibility list which may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the active status of the eligibility list.
Salary Range: PR 187
FLSA: Non-Exempt
