The Opportunity with McKinstry We are seeking a mid-level Business Analyst to join our team on a contract basis. This role sits at the intersection of business process improvement and HR systems, supporting both analytical and technical workstreams across our People Enablement landscape, including Workday HCM, Learning Management System (LMS), and Applicant Tracking System (ATS). The ideal candidate brings strong requirements-gathering and stakeholder engagement skills alongside hands-on Workday HCM experience, including report writing, project delivery support, and participation in shared support operations. Business Analysis & Process Improvement
Elicit, document, and validate business requirements from HR and operational stakeholders across end-to-end HR processes Facilitate workshops and working sessions to identify pain points, gaps, and opportunities for process improvement Develop process maps, user stories, and functional specifications to support system and workflow enhancements Conduct current-state and future-state analysis, including gap assessments and feasibility evaluations Track and manage requirements through delivery, ensuring traceability and stakeholder alignment
Stakeholder Management
Serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technical or delivery teams Manage competing priorities and conflicting requirements across stakeholder groups, facilitating consensus and driving sign-off Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and changes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Build and maintain strong working relationships across HR, People Operations, IT, and leadership teams
Documentation
Produce high-quality Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), functional specifications, use cases, and user stories with clear acceptance criteri Develop and maintain SOPs, process maps, RACI matrices, and other supporting documentation Maintain system documentation including configuration guides, data dictionaries, and reporting inventories Author training materials and job aids to support end-user adoption of new processes or system changes
Project Support
Support project delivery across the full lifecycle - from discovery and requirements through testing, go-live, and hypercare Write UAT test cases, coordinate testing activities, and track and manage defects to resolution Conduct change impact assessments and support readiness planning for process or system changes Support semi-annual Workday release cycles by reviewing release notes, assessing impact, and coordinating testing
People Enablement Administration & Support
Build and maintain Workday reports (standard, custom, matrix, and composite) to support HR and leadership decision-making Participate in the triage and management of incoming People Enablement support requests via ServiceNow, assessing priority and complexity, routing cases to the appropriate team member or resolver group, and tracking through to resolution Troubleshoot Workday and broader People Enablement issues, escalating to implementation partners or vendors as needed Maintain People Enablement documentation and support continuous improvement of platform capabilities
What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry
3-6 years of experience in a Business Analyst or HR Analyst role, with at least 2 years working directly in Workday HCM Demonstrated experience gathering requirements, driving process improvement initiatives, and managing stakeholder relationships Strong documentation skills with experience producing BRDs, functional specifications, SOPs, and process maps Proficiency in Workday report writing (custom reports, calculated fields, dashboards) Solid understanding of Core HR data structures and HCM business processes (hiring, onboarding, job changes, terminations) Experience supporting UAT, including test case writing and defect tracking Experience working with ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow for case and request management Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences Ability to work independently in a contractor capacity and manage priorities with minimal oversight
Preferred Qualifications
Workday Pro certification in HCM or Reporting Previous experience working directly in a Learning Management System, Applicant Tracking System Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project delivery methodologies Proficiency in Visio for process documentation and workflow mapping Prior experience working in an HR function or supporting HR teams in a business-facing capacity
