Responsibilities

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health opened its doors in April 2025 as the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 25 years! Integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8, this enhanced integrated delivery system will establish a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it will ensure residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. Our advanced hospital will offer 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, onsite 550-car parking garage, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Technician (Part-Time, Days)

Our ideal candidate will provide care to assigned patients, according to the established plan of care, provide specified care to patients with a wide range of injuries and illnesses, anticipate patient care needs and facilitate implementation of diagnostic and treatment measures. As the competency documentation designates, the Emergency Technician will be under the direct supervision of the Clinical Supervisor/Team Leader and/or Emergency Department Providers.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Observe patients in accordance with department policies and procedures, take vital signs, monitor pulse oximetry, observe condition of patient and patient care equipment or devices, and report changes from baseline patient status to appropriate patient care team members.
  • Assist with implementation of a patient's plan of care as directed by the MD/RN, reporting information and findings.
  • Provide direct bedside care to patients as assigned, inclusive of but not limited to: activities of daily livings, dressings, assisting with ambulation, mobilization; assistance with crutches, walkers, and transporting patients in wheelchairs and stretchers.
  • Provide personal care for the patient including hygiene and physical comfort measures.
  • Turn, move, lift, ambulate, and transport patient by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed as needed.
  • Provide postmortem care.
  • Set up, dismantle, and clean patient are equipment according to the Infection Control guidelines.
  • Operation and maintain technical, unit specific patient care equipment including but not limited to: casting saw and ring cutter, in accordance with established safety guidelines.
  • Prepare rooms for new patients,
  • Communicate and collaborate with other care providers to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Document care provided according to established guidelines (i.e., blood sugar, EKG) and enter patient information, orders, and changes into the hospital information system.
  • Wound preparation, application of splints and orthopedic devices, Foley catheter insertion/care, IV insertion/monitoring to include utilization of ultrasound, and initial cleaning and preparation of all instruments.
  • Perform other job duties/assignments as required.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for the Emergency Medical Technician is preferred.
  • Certified Patient Care Technician certification is required and/or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Successful completion of the cognitive and psycho-motor exam for the National Registry of EMTs at a Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic level.
  • 1 year of recent Emergency Department experience as an emergency room technician or at least one year of experience as a primary EMS field provider or military equivalent.
  • BLS certification required (through the American Heart Association)
  • Verbal de-escalation within 6 months of hire.
