Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least five (5) years' experience in supply chain management, procurement/sourcing or other related area, in manufacturing environment.
  • CPM / APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills reflecting the global nature of today's market and supply base.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal external contacts at all levels.
  • Excellent computer skills, with solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) systems. Knowledge of Syteline ERP system preferred.
  • Good knowledge of contract law.
  • Good knowledge of accounting, strong quantitative and mathematical abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.
  • Team player with high ethical standards in complying with Company, customer and industry regulations.
  • Strong strategic and tactical focus.
  • Working knowledge of procurement systems, purchasing policies/procedures, and purchasing law.
  • Proven abilities in negotiation, team building, innovation, and change management.
  • Sharp analytical skills and robust problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross functionally to develop well rounded knowledge of the Purchasing Department.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

Summary:

The Senior Buyer/Planner is responsible for bridging the gap between demand forecasting and physical procurement. This position minimizes cost, optimize inventory health and ensures seamless material availability to meet production targets and customer commitments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Buyer/Planner creates and maintains forecasts to create master production schedules.
  • Monitors forecast accuracy and implement improvements to planning processes.
  • Negotiates pricing, releases purchase orders (PO), and expedites or de-expedites shipments to adapt to supply/demand changes, ensuring on time delivery.
  • The Senior Buyer/Planner cultivates strong vendor relationships, conducts performance evaluations (on-time delivery, quality), and resolves supply chain bottlenecks.
  • Identifies capacity constraints and potential shortages before they impact production.
  • Monitors stock levels to reduce the risk of stock outs and mitigate excess, aging, or obsolete inventory.
  • The Senior Buyer/Planner collaborates with Product, Operations, and Finance teams to align demand forecasts with supply strategies.
  • Improve inventory turns while maintaining service levels.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce lead times and improve supplier responsiveness.
  • Supports resolution of supplier issues and escalations.
  • Supports visibility and control of consignment inventory where applicable.
  • The Senior Buyer/Planner sources components and services from new and existing supply base, ensuring the company is not sole sourced.
  • Drives supplier accountability for delivery, quality, responsiveness, and capacity commitments.
  • Leads quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers.
  • Develops risk mitigation plans for critical materials and components.
  • Monitors market conditions, shortages, and geopolitical risks affecting supply.
  • Builds inventory and sourcing strategies to protect company operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
