Job Summary

The Toolmaker supports manufacturing and engineering operations by machining production and prototype components, fixtures, tooling, and specialty tools. This role operates manual and CNC machining equipment, develops and proofs CNC programs, performs surface grinding and tool fabrication, and inspects components using GD&T principles and inspection techniques. The Toolmaker works closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering and may assist with training other shop employees on machine shop practices and processes.

Job Responsibilities



  • Machine complex tooling, fixtures, production components, and prototype components in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering.
  • Create and proof CNC programs using Proto-Trak.
  • Set up and operate manual machine shop equipment, including mills, lathes, drill presses, shears, and saws.
  • Set up and operate two-axis CNC lathes and mills in prototype and production environments.
  • Set up and operate surface grinding machines.
  • Develop, fabricate, and sharpen cutting tools and specialty tools.
  • Inspect GD&T features using basic and advanced inspection techniques.
  • Cut open units as required to complete production operations.
  • Assist shop management with training shop employees in common machine shop practices and company-specific processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • 5+ years of experience working in the toolmaking trade.
  • High mechanical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in trigonometry.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Understanding of chip formation and metal cutting principles.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/EIA RS-274 G-code NC programming.
  • Experience setting up and operating manual mills, lathes, drill presses, saws, shears, and related machine shop equipment.
  • Experience setting up and operating two-axis CNC mills and lathes.
  • Experience with surface grinding.
  • Ability to inspect GD&T features using appropriate inspection techniques.
  • Experience or formal education in design or drafting with an emphasis on CAD.
  • Ability to reside within a reasonable commuting distance.
  • Must meet ITAR U.S. person requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with manufacturing and engineering teams.
  • Ability to support training of shop employees on machine shop practices and procedures.


Education



  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Formal education in design or drafting with an emphasis on CAD may be considered as applicable experience.


Work Experience



  • 5+ years of experience in the toolmaking trade required.
