RSM's Government Contracting team within the Management Consulting practice provides specialized advisory, compliance, and transformation services to help Federal government contractors navigate complex regulatory requirements and modernize the finance, accounting, contracting, technology, and control capabilities that support compliant growth and performance.

As a Director in our growing Government Contracting Advisory practice, you will lead client relationships, shape and sell advisory opportunities, and deliver transformative solutions that help Federal contractors balance compliance requirements with operational effectiveness, scalability, and business performance.

You will lead multiple client engagements, mentor and develop high-performing teams, and help build scalable offerings, methodologies, and solutions for a rapidly evolving government contracting environment. This role provides the opportunity to influence both client outcomes and the growth strategy of RSM's Government Contracting Advisory practice.

This role is a leadership position within our Government Contracting Advisory practice and is expected to focus on the Federal government contracting market through:

  • Developing and expanding client relationships across the Federal contracting marketplace.
  • Leading pursuit strategy, proposal development, and business development activities.
  • Delivering complex government contracting advisory and transformation engagements.
  • Bringing the full strength of the firm across Consulting, Risk, Technology, Audit, and Tax to provide integrated solutions.
  • Developing and mentoring Managers, Supervisors, Associates, and cross-functional resources.
  • Creating scalable offerings, methodologies, tools, and market-facing solutions.
  • Supporting the long-term growth strategy and market position of the Government Contracting Advisory practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advisory and transformation engagements focused on improving compliance, performance, and operating effectiveness across government contracting organizations, including:
    • Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and agency supplement compliance
    • Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) compliance and business systems
    • Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) compliance
    • Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) audit readiness and audit response
    • Government contract cost accounting
    • Cost allocation structure design and cost impact analysis
    • Indirect rate strategy and forward pricing rates
    • CASB Disclosure Statements and incurred cost submissions
    • Business systems and internal control assessments
    • Operating model and business process transformation
    • Contracting and finance technology assessment and enablement
    • ERP platforms including Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, and related systems
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executives and functional leaders, including CFOs, Controllers, Contracts Leaders, Compliance Leaders, and Technology Leaders.
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposal development, solution design, pricing support, oral presentations, and account expansion.
  • Help clients modernize contracting, finance, accounting, compliance, reporting, governance, and control environments.
  • Assess current-state organizations, processes, policies, controls, data flows, reporting structures, and enabling technologies.
  • Develop future-state operating models, governance frameworks, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent client engagements while managing project risks, budgets, quality standards, and client expectations.
  • Lead executive-level discussions and communicate recommendations, risks, decisions, and business impacts clearly.
  • Build and develop high-performing teams through mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and capability development initiatives.
  • Develop new offerings, methodologies, accelerators, and market-facing solutions for the evolving Federal contracting environment.
  • Foster an innovative, inclusive, and collaborative team culture focused on client success and professional growth.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Federal government contracting, consulting, advisory, professional services, industry, or a related environment.
  • Significant hands-on experience with several of the following:
    • FAR, DFARS, and agency supplement compliance
    • Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
    • DCAA audit readiness and audit response
    • DFARS business systems
    • Government contract cost accounting
    • Cost allocation structures and cost impact analysis
    • Indirect rate development and forward pricing rates
    • CASB Disclosure Statements
    • Incurred cost submissions
    • GSA Schedules and commercial pricing
    • Policies, procedures, controls, and documentation
  • Experience leading client-facing teams and managing multiple concurrent engagements.
  • Experience developing proposals, shaping pursuits, and supporting business development activities.
  • Executive presence with the ability to build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment.
  • Ability to travel as required to meet client needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, MBA, PMP, Six Sigma, or other relevant professional certifications.
  • Prior Director, Senior Manager, Managing Consultant, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Experience leading finance modernization, transformation, technology enablement, process improvement, or operating model engagements.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar government contracting ERP platforms.
  • Experience implementing, configuring, assessing, or improving Costpoint or related systems.
  • Experience developing teams, mentoring managers, and building scalable delivery models.
  • Experience creating new service offerings, methodologies, and market-facing solutions.
  • Exposure to multiple industries within the Federal contracting landscape, including aerospace and defense, technology, professional services, research and development, health, and life sciences.
  • Understanding of the practical application of artificial intelligence across government contracting, finance, accounting, compliance, reporting, audit readiness, and business process automation.

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $141,900 - $286,000

Individualsselected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
