JOB SUMMARY McKenney's is seeking a driven and experienced Tool Room Coordinator to lead the daily operations of our Charlotte Logistics Tool Room. This individual will oversee tool tracking, repair, inventory, and distribution activities while supervising and developing a team of Tool Room Associates. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, is highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where safety, reliability, and service are paramount. This position is the top role in a clearly defined career progression within our Tool Room operations team. The Tool Room Coordinator is responsible for ensuring execution of departmental goals related to safety, quality, and productivity, and will work closely with project teams, logistics coordinators, and warehouse leadership to ensure that tools and equipment are maintained, tracked, and delivered with precision. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Oversee daily tool room operations including receiving, inspection, storage, order fulfillment, and distribution * Serve as the primary point of contact for field teams regarding tool availability, status, or order support * Monitor tool repair needs and ensure proper routing, documentation, and vendor follow-up as required * Maintain relationships with tool and equipment vendors; select preferred vendors and manage ongoing buying agreements * Track tool inventory levels and usage trends to support forecasting, restocking, and procurement decisions * Supervise and develop Tool Room Associate I and II team members; assign responsibilities based on specialization (Tool Maintenance or Order Fulfillment) * Conduct routine audits for safety, tool condition, and compliance with labeling, calibration, and storage protocols * Ensure compliance with all safety policies and actively lead 5S efforts within the tool room * Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to tool tracking, process efficiency, and customer service * Own the training and onboarding of new tool room employees, delegating hands-on support to experienced associates * Collaborate with logistics, warehouse, and field leadership to align tool room functions with broader project needs * Submit or approve time, track labor allocation, and support reporting metrics for tool room performance BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience * High school diploma or GED * Minimum 5 years of experience in a tool room, warehouse, logistics, or construction support environment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong customer service focus and ability to build rapport with internal stakeholders * Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role * Proficiency with inventory or tool tracking systems * General mechanical aptitude and ability to assess tool condition and function * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to communicate clearly with both team members and external vendors * Comfortable using computers, mobile devices, and web-based applications PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS * Experience managing tool procurement, vendor relationships, or buying agreements * Familiarity with construction tools, equipment, and rigging gear * Experience leading or participating in tool room audits, safety inspections, or calibration programs * Prior involvement in implementing or maintaining 5S or LEAN workplace practices * Exposure to construction logistics, jobsite operations, or warehouse support functions * Ability to train, mentor, and develop team members across varying experience levels WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS * Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises. * Work environment involves moderate exposure to tool room or construction hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. * Strong physical effort.
