Job Overview
Help build the next generation of mission-critical power in a true ground-floor opportunity. The Mechanical Engineer - Power Generation Containerization will help design and launch a new line of large-scale, containerized power generation solutions supporting mission-critical data centers. Ingersoll Rand is building a new data center power generation vertical, and this engineer will help shape the mechanical architecture, product platform, and manufacturing strategy behind it. The role will translate existing product knowledge from Ingersoll Rand's acquired Australian business and North American partners into in-house designs that can be manufactured efficiently and at scale in Sidney, Ohio.
The Mechanical Engineer will own key aspects of the mechanical design and integration of these large generator systems, including structural assemblies, enclosures, cooling systems, fuel and base tanks, equipment layouts, and overall mechanical packaging. These are complex systems built around large diesel engines, alternators, radiators, fuel systems, controls, and serviceable layouts designed to provide critical backup power where uptime and cooling continuity are essential. As an early member of this growing technical team, the engineer will have meaningful hands-on ownership from concept and CAD design through manufacturing readiness and commercialization. The role will work closely with electrical engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, project management, sales, and the Sidney plant to ensure solutions meet both customer requirements and manufacturing needs.
The ideal candidate brings mechanical design experience in power generation, large industrial equipment, modular systems, or complex packaged equipment. Experience with generator packaging or containerization, large diesel generators, 2MW+ systems, cooling systems, fuel tanks, enclosures, or applicable UL requirements is especially valuable. For an engineer who wants to do more than support an established product line, this is an opportunity to help build one from the ground up-with significant technical ownership, strong company investment, and meaningful growth potential. Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design & Engineering
- Design containerized and modular power generation solutions for data center backup and prime power applications.
- Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, fabrication packages, and engineering documentation using CAD software.
