Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering

Job Description

The Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology seeks an adjunct instructor to teach ENG MGT 5515 - Integrated Product and Process Design, a three-credit-hour lecture course.

The instructor will teach principles and practices associated with integrated product development, concurrent engineering, design for manufacture, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Course content includes the documentation and management of design-process knowledge and the integration of product-realization activities across the product life cycle.

Topics include:

  • Identification and analysis of customer and stakeholder needs
  • Product requirements development
  • Concept generation, evaluation, and selection
  • Product and process modeling
  • Design for manufacture and assembly
  • Concurrent engineering methods
  • Manufacturing-readiness assessment
  • Integration of advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Cross-functional engineering teamwork
  • Documentation and communication of design decisions
  • Process development and production planning
  • Product life-cycle management and end-of-life options
  • Industry-based product and process design projects

The instructor will develop and deliver lectures, facilitate team-based design activities, evaluate student work, provide timely feedback, and connect course concepts to practical engineering and manufacturing applications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, engineering management, or a closely related field
  • Master's degree in engineering, engineering management, business administration, or a related discipline
  • Substantial professional experience in product development, manufacturing engineering, concurrent engineering, design for manufacture, or production systems
  • Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary or cross-functional engineering teams
  • Experience integrating product-design and manufacturing-process considerations
  • Strong written, oral, project-management, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or another complex engineering industry
  • Experience conducting manufacturing-readiness assessments and addressing production or operational constraints
  • Experience evaluating and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies
  • Experience leading industry-university research or technology-development partnerships
  • Previous university teaching experience at the senior undergraduate or graduate level
  • Previous teaching or professional experience in design for manufacture, concurrent engineering, integrated product development, or related subjects
  • Experience mentoring engineers and managing team-based innovation projects
  • Familiarity with ABET-accredited engineering programs and engineering-education expectations

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate engineering, manufacturing, business, and project-management perspectives and to provide students with practical insight into the realization of complex products and production systems.
