Job Summary

As a Mixed-Methods Research Specialist II, you will shape our AI-powered sign language products, from conception to how they learn from the real world - connecting user experience, behavioral data, and model evaluation into a unified learning system. Your work will directly influence product decisions, model quality, and user trust for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing communities.

This position designs, implements, and manages research projects that integrate both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. This role involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data to provide comprehensive insights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Translate ambiguous product and model questions into clear, actionable research plans - spanning discovery, concept testing, and experience evaluation
  • Design and execute end-to-end mixed-methods research across multiple AI product workstreams
  • Study how Deaf users experience communication across real contexts using both moderated and unmoderated methods
  • Partner cross-functionally to define what "good" looks like - contributing to evolving frameworks for measuring interpretation quality and communication effectiveness
  • Design surveys and experience metrics that can be tracked over time and establish recurring reporting that accumulates learning, not one-off studies
  • Define behavioral signals and instrumentation requirements in partnership with Product and Engineering
  • Maintain research practices that are respectful, transparent, and meaningful to participants
  • Communicate findings clearly through focused, decision-driving deliverables
  • Set up feedback systems and tracking cadence for newly launched features; ensure insights continuously inform product and model decisions
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Travel Requirements

Travel Requirements: Less than 25%

Education

Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree in a related field

Experience

6 Years of applied research experience in product or technology environments with a strong background in qualitative research (moderated + unmoderated), survey design and analysis, and basic behavioral or product analytics

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work across methods and select the right approach for the problem at hand
  • Experience developing and working with product and experience metrics
  • Comfort building lightweight measurement systems (tracking, dashboards, reporting)
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills
  • Curious, collaborative, structured, and action-oriented
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and early-stage environments
  • Focused on impact - not just output
  • Experience working with communities where trust and cultural sensitivity matter
  • Strong commitment to inclusive and ethical research practices
  • ASL proficiency is a strong plus, but not required; if not fluent, must demonstrate strong judgment in working with interpreters and ensure full communication access in all research activities
