Protect More Than Accounts. Help Shape How We Fight Fraud.

Fraud is changing quickly. So are the tools, technologies, and strategies needed to stop it.

Rize Credit Union is looking for an experienced Financial Security Investigations Officer to take the lead on complex fraud and financial crime investigations while helping us strengthen how we detect, prevent, and respond to emerging threats.

This is not simply a case-management role. As a senior individual contributor on our Financial Security team, you'll investigate high-risk and unusual activity, analyze fraud trends and control weaknesses, evaluate the effectiveness of our fraud detection systems, and recommend strategies that help protect our members, our assets, and our organization.

You'll also serve as a subject-matter resource to colleagues across Rize, bringing together investigative expertise, data analysis, technology, and sound judgment to continuously improve our fraud prevention program.

What You'll Do

Lead Complex Investigations

  • Independently manage complex, high-risk, and unusual fraud and financial crime investigations from initial review through resolution.
  • Analyze transactions, account activity, member profiles, system data, and other information to identify suspicious activity, emerging patterns, and broader risk exposure.
  • Conduct advanced interviews with members, suspects, witnesses, team members, and other parties.
  • Develop investigative findings and recommend appropriate case actions, including account restrictions, closures, reinstatements, recovery, restitution, and law enforcement referrals.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of fraud events and losses to identify control weaknesses and recommend solutions.

Strengthen Fraud Detection & Analytics

  • Analyze and optimize fraud surveillance and transaction-monitoring systems through rule tuning, threshold testing, alert optimization, and suppression analysis.
  • Evaluate fraud detection models, scoring logic, rules, and thresholds against emerging fraud trends and Rize's risk profile.
  • Analyze alert volumes, detection rates, false positives, fraud losses, and other performance indicators.
  • Develop and maintain fraud analytics, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), dashboards, loss-trend reporting, and other measures of program effectiveness.
  • Recommend new or enhanced fraud detection rules and strategies based on emerging schemes, scam typologies, member behavior, system performance, and industry intelligence.
  • Provide fraud analysis and reporting to support management, Executive, and Board-level reporting.

Help Build the Future of Fraud Prevention

  • Evaluate fraud risks associated with emerging products, payment technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital identity verification, account-opening technology, and other services.
  • Recommend improvements to fraud prevention, detection, investigation, response strategies, policies, procedures, controls, and technology.
  • Participate in implementation, testing, validation, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for fraud applications, monitoring platforms, digital banking controls, and system enhancements.
  • Help develop fraud detection strategies that leverage analytics, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Partner across Rize on projects involving fraud risk, controls, systems, and process improvements.

Support Compliance & Case Resolution

  • Conduct investigative activities supporting applicable BSA/AML, OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act, and other financial crime requirements.
  • Prepare detailed Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready investigative records.
  • Support regulatory examinations, Internal Audit requests, risk assessments, and internal control reviews.
  • Coordinate complex recovery and resolution efforts with Collections, Legal, law enforcement, external recovery partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare or coordinate investigative and legal documentation, including subpoenas, garnishments, court filings, restitution requests, and prosecution packages, as applicable.

Be a Trusted Resource

  • Serve as a subject-matter resource on complex fraud matters for team members, management, members, and law enforcement.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Financial Security Investigators and support personnel on complex cases, investigative approaches, fraud systems, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain relationships with law enforcement, fraud networks, and relevant industry organizations.
  • Help identify training needs and facilitate fraud awareness and prevention education for teams across Rize.
  • This is a lead individual-contributor position and does not have direct supervisory responsibility.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone who combines strong investigative instincts with analytical and technical expertise. You should be comfortable digging deeply into complex cases while also stepping back to identify trends, control gaps, and opportunities to make the entire fraud program stronger.

Required qualifications include:

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in fraud investigations, financial crimes, fraud operations, BSA/AML investigations, financial intelligence, or enterprise fraud risk management within a financial institution.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex or high-risk fraud investigations and working across departments on fraud prevention efforts.
  • Experience analyzing fraud trends, control weaknesses, and fraud detection effectiveness and recommending risk-mitigation or process improvements.
  • In-depth knowledge of fraud schemes, including digital banking and payment fraud, identity theft, scams, cyber-enabled financial crimes, and emerging AI-related fraud.
  • Experience with fraud rule tuning, threshold testing, model validation, and fraud detection strategy.
  • Experience working with law enforcement, attorneys, and regulatory bodies on fraud matters.
  • Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) preparation and writing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, business administration, finance, accounting, information systems, or a related field.
  • One industry-recognized certification such as CFE, CAMS, CAFP, CAFS, or equivalent, or the ability to obtain one within 12-18 months of hire.

Experience working with fraud and financial technology platforms such as Verafin, Jack Henry Symitar, LexisNexis, digital banking fraud systems, AWS, Microsoft BI, Excel, or similar tools is highly valuable. Experience with fraud rule configuration and transaction-monitoring systems is preferred.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You're naturally curious and analytical. You notice patterns others may miss, ask the next question, and know how to follow information wherever it leads.

You can make sound decisions when the facts are complicated, incomplete, or changing. You're comfortable handling sensitive and confidential matters, difficult conversations, competing priorities, and time-sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.

Just as importantly, you can translate a complex investigation or data set into a clear story: What happened? Why did it happen? What is the risk? And what should we do differently going forward?

Join Rize

At Rize Credit Union, our work goes beyond banking. We uplift communities through knowledge, access, and care, and protecting our members from fraud and financial crime is an important part of that commitment.

If you're ready to bring your investigative expertise, analytical thinking, and knowledge of emerging fraud risks to a role where you can influence both individual cases and the broader fraud prevention strategy, we'd like to hear from you.

This is a full-time, exempt position based at Rize Credit Union's headquarters in Irwindale, California.
