Want a hands-on mechanical career that's different from a typical maintenance job?


Mall of America is looking for a Ride Maintenance Technician I to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair rides and attractions inside Nickelodeon Universe.


Previous amusement-ride experience is not required. What matters most is mechanical aptitude, a strong commitment to safety and a can-do attitude towards learning.


We're looking for dependable, safety-focused people who enjoy troubleshooting equipment, working with tools and figuring out how mechanical systems work.


Mechanical aptitude can be developed and demonstrated in many ways including automotive repair, equipment maintenance, manufacturing, HVAC, electrical work, construction trades, technical education, military service or other hands-on mechanical experience.


You will receive ride-specific on-the-job training while working alongside our experienced Ride Maintenance Technicians.


What You'll Do:



  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair rides and attractions within Nickelodeon Universe as your training and qualifications progress
  • Complete daily ride-opening inspections and scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Respond to ride faults and equipment issues, reset equipment and assist with timely repairs.
  • Complete work orders and maintain accurate inspection and repair records in accordance with operating manuals.
  • Work alongside experienced Ride Maintenance Technicians while building your technical skills and contributing to a can-do attitude
  • Work collaboratively with Ride Operations and Maintenance team members to protect the safety of guests and coworkers, communicate equipment concerns clearly and respond calmly when assistance is needed.
  • Assist with annual preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades and other ride-maintenance projects.
  • Follow established safety procedures indulging Lockout-tagout (LOTO) requirements
  • Test ride safety and functionality before returning equipment to operation
  • Assist Ride Operations during evacuations and close rides for repairs when necessary
  • Operate scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other equipment after required training and authorization



What We're Looking For:


You do not need previous amusement ride experience to be successful in this role.


Mechanical aptitude many be demonstrated through work experience, technical education, military service, automotive or equipment repair, construction trades, manufacturing, personal mechanical projects or similar hands-on experience.


Strong candidates typically:



  • Enjoy troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment.
  • Are comfortable working with hand and power tools.
  • Want to develop mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Approach equipment issues logically, safely and with attention to detail.
  • Are dependable, communicate clearly, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Are willing and able to work at heights when required.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understand that dependable maintenance, clear communication and attention to detail directly affect the guest and team member experience.
  • Follow technical instructions and ask questions whenever conditions or procedures are unclear.


Experience or education involving automotive repair, HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical maintenance, manufacturing equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics or technical trades is preferred but not required.


Schedule:


This position works primarily first shift, generally beginning around 5:00-6:00 AM and ending around 2:00-3:00 PM.


Some weekends, holidays and schedule flexibility may be required based on operational needs.


Physical Requirements:


This is a hands-on maintenance position working around amusement rides and mechanical equipment.


Regular responsibilities may include:



  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching and climbing.
  • Lifting and carrying equipment or materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Working at heights up to approximately 85 feet when required.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment and working around noise, motion, varying temperatures, and other sensory conditions.
