Overview

We are looking for a skilled Machinist 3rd Shift (Sun-Thursday) to join our Materials Testing team. In this role, you will manufacture precision test specimens and components from a wide variety of metallic and engineering materials.

You will operate CNC and conventional machining equipment and work closely with laboratory technicians, engineers, and metallurgists to produce specimens that meet exact dimensional, geometric, and surface-finish requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a machinist who enjoys precision work, problem solving, and working with advanced materials and wants to apply their skills in a laboratory environment supporting some of the world's most demanding industries.

Salary: $25- $30/hr DOE + $2 shift differential

Hours: 10:00pm to 6:00am Sunday to Thursday



Responsibilities

    Machine test specimens from metals, alloys, composites, and other engineering materials.
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual mills, lathes, saws, grinders, and related equipment.
  • Program CNC machines and make program adjustments as necessary.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, specifications, and GD&T.
  • Manufacture specimens for tensile, fatigue, fracture toughness, compression, impact, hardness, corrosion, metallurgical, and other materials testing.
  • Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, workholding, and machining processes based on material and specimen requirements.
  • Perform precision machining to tight dimensional tolerances and specified surface finishes.
  • Inspect completed specimens using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measurement equipment.
  • Verify specimen dimensions and quality before releasing work for laboratory testing.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection documentation.
  • Identify machining or material issues and work with laboratory and engineering personnel to resolve them.
  • Maintain equipment, tooling, and work areas in accordance with Element's safety and quality requirements.
  • Follow applicable ASTM, ISO, customer, and Element procedures and specifications.
  • Prioritize work to meet customer turnaround requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, productivity, and laboratory turnaround time.


Skills / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • 3+ years of professional machining experience.
    • Experience operating CNC machining equipment.
    • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds, speeds, and workholding.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
    • Experience using precision measurement equipment.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
    • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot machining issues.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating with technicians, engineers, and laboratory personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequency of required physical force: Moderate.

  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion.

  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically.
