Position Overview
As a Cook, you'll be responsible for preparing meals according to weekly rotating menus, standardized recipes, resident dietary requirements, and established food production procedures. Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Review menus and production sheets to determine the quantities needed for regular, mechanically altered, and other special diets
- Prepare assigned food items according to established recipes and production standards
- Follow weekly rotating menus and standardized recipes
- Prepare meals and food items with attention to quality, consistency, nutrition, and presentation
- Taste and smell food samples as appropriate to evaluate quality and ensure proper preparation
- Monitor food throughout the cooking and production process
- Ensure food is cooked, held, and served at appropriate temperatures
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control requirements
- Maintain cleanliness and proper upkeep of assigned kitchen equipment and work areas
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of food items
- Follow proper procedures for handling, storing, and preparing food
- Work collaboratively with Dining Services team members to ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule
- Treat residents with dignity, kindness, and respect
- Follow all applicable facility policies, safety standards, HIPAA, and compliance requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Cook Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 yrs. age required. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous food preparation experience required.
- Ability to understand and organize food preparation activities required.
- Ability to carry out cooking tasks at a safe and efficient level of performance required.
- Knowledge of food preparation and production process necessary.
- Pride in quality of food and service necessary.
- High degree of personal cleanliness and good hygiene; health status suitable for service of food required.
- Respect for residents' privacy and rights; respectful and dignified treatment of residents required.
- This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
