These efforts consistently result in more than 98% of graduates securing employment, graduate school admission, or a competitive fellowship within six months of graduation. |
| Accountabilities |
Colgate University, a premiere liberal arts university of approximately 3,100 students, seeks an energetic, student-focused career adviser to serve in a temporary, part-time capacity (i.e., 20-25 hours/week) for fall 2026. This advisor will coach students primarily excited about the business sector (e.g., consulting, finance, human resources, marketing, real estate, sales, etc.), but will also conduct generalist career advising as a member of our career development team.
Utilizing a human-centric, growth mindset approach and leveraging Colgate's four-year career development plan, they will guide deciding and exploring students through understanding what career options best fit a student's interests, strengths, values, and identities. They then will work directly with students on search strategies, applications, and decision-making related to internship, entry-level job, and graduate/professional school searches. This adviser will join a highly-motivated team of 15 professionals and 20 student interns. This position reports to the associate director of career development.
Accountable for independently guiding students through a process of clarifying their strengths, interests, and values, and aspects of their identities to gain an understanding of the world of work, and best-fit career areas. Accountable without supervisor oversight to teach students and young alumni to enhance their candidacy and potential for future success by building networks with influencers. Responsible for conducting effective advising of students and young alumni that results in their articulation of the value of their Colgate liberal arts education and co-curricular experiences in relation to opportunities of interest. Responsible for the effective delivery of skill-based learning related to job, internship, and graduate/professional school application processes (e.g. composing targeted applications, interview preparation, offer evaluation). |
Requirements
| Professional Experience/ Qualifications |
- A minimum of two years of 1:1 career advising experience is required.
- Must be able to build rapport with students and exhibit a high standard of professionalism while partnering with them through an advising process.
- Must be capable of being a strong advocate for inclusion with a proven ability to work with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills, extraordinary interpersonal skills, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated strength in collaboration, organizational skills, detail orientation, and ability to independently follow through on assignments.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Previous experience working in a business field (e.g., consulting, finance, human resources, marketing, real estate, sales, etc.) or advising students in pursuit of business opportunities.
- Experience conducting mock case interviews and/or technical finance interviews.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current business industry recruiting processes and expectations.
