Job Announcement

Do you have an interest in the records and information management profession? Do you enjoy organizing material in a physical and electronic realm? Are you a service-oriented person who enjoys helping customers? If so, consider joining the Archives and Records Management Branch as an Information Technician.

We are seeking specialized Information Technician I's to assist in all processes related to records, from accessions to disposition to customer support. This role typically involves working in a facility or warehouse environment to ensure the county's material stays protected and findable. It also includes direct contact with agencies across the county.

  • Processes the secure transfer, storage, and destruction of physical records, ensuring proper documentation of all activities.
  • Provides data entry and inventory control in information management systems, including Content Manager and SharePoint.
  • Coordinates problem resolution with agencies and vendors as needed.
  • Prepares performance measurement reports.
  • Performs a variety of analytical and programming tasks to enhance operations and workflows related to records management.
  • Assists analyst staff in the building of partnerships with agency records coordinators and other stakeholders to improve records practices across Fairfax County Government.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from high school; plus either one year of specialized experience or two years of general experience in the installation and troubleshooting of personal computers, network/telecommunications systems; or possession of an associate's degree in computer science or related field

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in records management, library, or information management related area
  • Knowledge of technical skills, and experience working with databases, content management systems, and data migration tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Office 365 software especially Word, Excel, and Access. Proficiency with SharePoint.
  • Two or more years of records management experience in the public sector (Federal/State/Local Government).
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Preferred degree in Records Management, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in warehouses, records centers, and/or archives
  • Experience and working knowledge of the Virginia Public Records Act and associated records retention schedules by the Library of Virginia

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is partially sedentary, performed in a normal office environment and partially active, lifting boxes up to 50 pounds in a warehouse environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include exercise.
