The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Docket Clerk to join our Firm.This position will be based in our Los Angeles office (hybrid).In this role, you will provide complex filings, answer procedural questions, and conduct docket research using advanced online litigation software tools. The Senior Docket Clerk will assist with maintaining the litigation calendar for the Los Angeles Managing Law Clerks ("MLC") department. You will collaborate with MLC personnel, utilizes various department internal systems and technologies to automate the delivery of federal and state court filings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Processes complex filings in state and federal courts + alternative dispute resolution jurisdictions (JAMS, AAA, etc.)
  • Reviews documents for rule compliance prior to service and filing.
  • Provides strategic calendar guidance using the Firm's calendar software.
  • Conducts docket research using various vendor platforms to support attorneys with procedural guidance, filings and case strategies.
  • Adds client-matter numbers and set case team distribution lists on vendor PacerPro's administrative system for every federal case where Skadden counsel has/will appear.
  • Confirms filings, services of process related documents, and document retrieval requests are placed in the department database, ensuring retention of department analytics.
  • Notifies the Managing Law Clerks Manager promptly of any filing, vendor, or operational issues that may arise within the department.
  • Retrieves and distributes docket sheets and various other litigation related documents from state and federal courts.
  • Performs departmental administrative functions, including timely submission of vendor invoices, department file maintenance, and electronic organization of department records.
  • Provides accurate and timely responses to requests into the department to ensure high-quality work product that aligns with Firm values.
  • Stays current on understanding Firm policies, industry trends, and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Federal and California state practice and rules.
  • Knowledge of calendar software.
  • Working knowledge of conventional and electronic filings in various state and federal courts.
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills to facilitate high-quality work product.
  • Manage Firm resources responsibly.
  • Ability to manage cases through vendor PacerPro, Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER), and other vendors the Firm utilizes.
  • Ability to communicate with various court personnel and vendors.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects, tasks and remain organized while prioritizing and delegating work.
  • Capacity to handle sensitive material and maintain confidentiality.
  • Competence to work well in a demanding fast-paced environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of five years of docketing experience in a law firm or professional services environment

Salary Range

$85,000-$100,000

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law. This position is eligible for overtime pay and may be eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus.
