Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Business Analyst/Process Improvement Specialist to work on our team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

Are you someone who loves solving problems, improving how work gets done, and helping teams build the right things? This role blends business analysis, process improvement, and product ownership to support a broad range of initiatives across the Environmental, Safety, Health, and Quality directorate. You'll work alongside experienced analysts, developers, and stakeholders to gather requirements, streamline processes, and help deliver technology products that make a real difference.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants hands-on experience across multiple disciplines - and a clear path to grow into a senior analyst, process improvement lead, or product owner role.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Gather, document, and validate business and functional requirements through interviews, surveys, workshops, and observation.
  • Translates stakeholder needs into clear, actionable requirements for development and project teams.
    Creates process models, use cases, workflow diagrams, and requirements specifications using standard templates.
  • Identifies gaps between current business processes and desired outcomes.
    Supports value stream mapping and process documentation efforts to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyzes current-state workflows and develop recommendations for future-state processes.
    Develops and maintain standard operating procedures, job aids, and training materials related to process changes.
  • Writes clear, well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria for development teams.
    Supports sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospective activities within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Serves as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure shared understanding of requirements and priorities.
  • Builds and maintain positive relationships with business stakeholders and IT partners.
    Supports project managers with documentation, meeting facilitation, and status tracking as needed.

Required:

  • Level 1: Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Level 2: Bachelor's Degree in a related field from and accredited institution and 2 years of experience.
  • Relevant experience which may include experience as a business analyst or project manager, including understanding and gathering business, functional, and technical requirements.
    • Additional relevant experience includes business process modeling including value stream mapping and process improvement; business analysis best practices/procedures; and project management best practices, procedures, and management tools.
    • Requires an understanding of IT system engineering concepts.
    • Must have a broad understanding/application of principles, theories, and concepts in enterprise systems, plus working knowledge of business processes in related fields (e.g., financial accounting, human resources, supply chain, and work management).
    • Must have experience in customer service, along with prior account management, business management/ownership, and demonstrated experience supporting a broad user base
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).
    • Basic familiarity with process documentation or diagramming (flowcharts, swim lanes, etc.).

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience with or coursework in Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum frameworks (coursework, certification, or project experience)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.
  • Entry-level certifications (IIBA ECBA, PMI-PBA, Scrum.org PSPO, CSM) are a plus - but not required.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, use hands to handle materials, manipulate tools, keyboard, and type, reach with hands and arms, and operate job-related equipment. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($57,444 - $112,068) / Level 2 ($66,504 - $136,356). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
