Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Care Center, and in collaboration with the physicians and other clinical staff in the Cardiology Clinic, the Clinical Nurse 2 is responsible for providing safe, efficient nursing care to patients in the UCSF Mission Bay outpatient Cardiology practice, supporting the Center for Prevention of Heart and Vascular Disease. Triage patients and responds appropriately according to protocol and nursing assessment.The Clinical Nurse 2 utilizes the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation) to provide safe and therapeutic clinical care.

The Clinical Nurse 2 also provides clinical support to Providers and participates as part of the health care team to assure coordination and continuity of patient care, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Clinical Nurse 2 participates in the development and implementation of educational programs and materials for patients and their family members.

S/he delivers direct patient care to a variety of patient populations. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient's physiological and psychosocial development. The Clinical Nurse 2 possesses the skills necessary to provide expert comprehensive care coordination for this clinically complex patient population.

The Clinical Nurse 2 will be primarily located at the Mission Bay/Bayfront Cardiology Practice, however, s/he must have flexibility to cover multiple UCSF medical center Cardiology clinic sites.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one-year recent Cardiology experience as a Registered Nurse in an ambulatory Cardiology practice, including telephone triage and in basket messaging with patients undergoing cardiology procedures and chronic management of Cardiology care.
  • Minimum one-year recent RN experience with general cardiology or preventive cardiology.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent Experience in the use of Epic Electronic Medical Record documentation.
  • Adult and Geriatric experience preferred.
  • Ability to work competently and efficiently with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, & Teams
  • BSN

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse as defined by California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Current CA Nursing license
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Certification.

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
