HJF is seeking a Staff Research Nurse who coordinates the activities associated with treating patients for clinical trials. Assures accurate documentation is maintained, and all governing regulations are in compliance.

This position will be in support of the Immunization Healthcare Division (IHD) of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) which supports Department of Defense (DoD) immunization programs protecting military service members and eligible beneficiaries, and supports education, training, and clinical and epidemiologic studies of vaccine safety, acceptability, and effectiveness.

  • Knowledgeable and proficient with the content of protocols. Identifies problems in research designs or analysis methodologies and trends in subject reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
  • Assists in the development of research questions, designs, and methodologies. Assists in writing and/or editing protocols and study-related materials.
  • Educates participants on research protocols, purposes of the research, procedures, and participant responsibilities. Answers questions and discusses risks and benefits of participation. Explains and obtains informed consent.
  • Collects data appropriate to research protocols. Documents in medical/research records and on case report forms.
  • Provides participant care including screening, evaluating, and monitoring of participants. Prepares participants for office visits and investigational research procedures. Administers investigational product(s).
  • Assists in responding to medical emergencies.
  • Collects, measures, weighs, and ensures safe handling, storage, delivery, and/or transport of various biological samples in accordance with prescribed protocols.
  • Provides feedback to the Principal Investigator to monitor the overall conduct of clinical trials, to include participant care and other issues that may affect subject safety, protocol adherence, and/or program operations.
  • Develops reports and presents clinical results at local and national meetings. Assists in the preparation of research articles for publication in scientific journals.
  • Supports the development of research grants and proposals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, to include those needed to maintain overall CTC operations. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years nursing experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical studies experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Collegiality in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Previous experience working in military/DoD environment, preferably within immunizations, strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory and IRB submission functions, such as reporting adverse events, and continuing review report submissions.
  • Experience with recruiting and enrolling clinical study subjects.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with participants and other staff members.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to take direction and establish priorities for accomplishment of work assigned.
  • Phlebotomy skills required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust background check.

Licenses and Certifications

  • LPN or RN certification; or certification as CCRC or CCRP preferred.
  • Certified in basic cardiac life support.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a lab and clinical setting.
  • This position is 30 hours per week.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $77,600-$97,266. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
