A typical day for a Respiratory Therapist may include:

  • Assessing patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions, evaluating clinical status, and recommending appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Administering respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and mechanical ventilation management
  • Monitoring patient response to treatment, recognizing changes in clinical condition, and communicating findings promptly to physicians and the care team
  • Performing diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas collection, pulmonary function testing, and bedside respiratory assessments as appropriate
  • Educating patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, equipment use, and strategies to support ongoing respiratory health
  • Accurately documenting assessments, treatments, and patient responses within the electronic medical record to promote continuity of care
  • Collaborating closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans
  • Maintaining respiratory equipment, ensuring proper operation, and adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards
  • Pursuing continued professional growth through continuing education, specialty certifications, and organizational resources that support long-term career development

  • You hold an active New Jersey Respiratory Therapist License (RRT)
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Current American Heart Association PALS certification
  • Preferred: AA/AS degree
