The Associate Process / Gating Engineer is responsible for supporting and owning defined investment casting process and gating activities for aerospace turbine airfoil components. This role supports Directional Solidification (DS), Single Crystal (SX), and Equiaxed (EQ) casting processes by developing robust gating layouts, maintaining process documentation, supporting production issues, and improving yield, quality, and delivery performance. The position requires practical engineering judgment, strong data analysis, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Tooling, Wax, Core, Shell, Melt, Heat Treat, and Inspection teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support DS, SX, and EQ casting process and gating development for turbine airfoil components.
  • Own assigned part numbers, gating layouts, process routers, work instructions, and CTQ process parameters under engineering guidance.
  • Develop and maintain gating concepts, wax assembly methods, pour cup/sprue/runner configurations, and feed paths to support casting quality and yield.
  • Provide production floor support for casting process deviations, gating issues, mold assembly concerns, nonconforming product, and yield losses.
  • Analyze casting defects such as misruns, shrinkage, inclusions, porosity, cracks, grain defects, stray grains, freckles, and dimensional movement.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions using data, defect mapping, metallurgical results, dimensional data, and process history.
  • Review blueprints, customer specifications, engineering requirements, and internal procedures to ensure compliant processing.
  • Support development and qualification of wax die tools, core die tools, fixtures, molds, and ceramic shell systems.
  • Use SPC, trend charts, yield data, scrap data, and inspection feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in scrap, rework, COPQ, and process stability improvement initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of investment casting, foundry manufacturing, turbine components, or related high-temperature manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, process documentation, and quality requirements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with nickel-based superalloys, DS/SX/EQ casting, wax injection, ceramic cores, shelling, melt, heat treat, or NDT.
  • Experience with RCCA, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SPC, or process capability analysis.
  • Experience supporting aerospace OEM or regulated manufacturing environments.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non-exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.


The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
