Site Safety & Health Officer/SSHO

In this role you will ensure both implementation and coordination of Haskell Safety program inclusive of technology applications, data analysis/utilization, trade partner prequalification, proposal efforts and team member support. Work closely with the corporate safety management team, risk management, and project supervision in the effective administration of Safety/Health requirements. Management/oversight of all safety statistics inclusive of data analysis and identification of emerging trends.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Corporate
    • In collaboration with Director-Corporate Safety, Quality and VP - Safety & Quality maintains active role in Safety/Quality staffing efforts inclusive of workforce projection forecasting, hiring processes, and delivery of onboarding.
    • Work with Director-Corporate Safety and/or Group Safety Managers in incident investigation analysis/reporting and generation of Lessons Learned communications. Initiation of Haskell Incident Reviews (HIR's) for serious or near-miss incidents.
    • Maintains frequent communications with Director - Corporate Safety regarding project safety issues, concerns, emerging trends, and upcoming activities. Actively participates in scheduled safety/quality leadership meetings conducted by the Director - Corporate Safety, Quality and/or designates.
    • Development and maintenance of Safety reporting inclusive of safety topics, information, and other commonly used reference materials. Maintain current Haskell Corporate Safety Manual and associated policy/procedure documents to maintain compliance with jurisdictional and client requirements.
    • Responsible for coordination and solicitation of industry safety recognition opportunities such as Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Chapter, ABC National Safety Excellence, and Construction Users Roundtable (CURT) safety recognition. Manages the collection of requested data, generation of all content and subsequent submissions.
    • Collaborate with Director-Corporate Safety and/or Group Safety Managers in achieving and maintaining certifications within safety organizations and governmental agencies (VPP, OSHA Consultation Programs, ISO 45001, etc.)
    • Coordination and procurement of standard safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for internal Haskell distribution needs. Works closely with Project Services Manager in the advancement/evaluation of safety products.
    • Travel as required.
    • Other duties which may be assigned as needed.
    • Supervises others.
  • Project
    • Work with Director-Corporate Safety and/or Group Safety Managers in the review, evaluation, and analysis of all project safety data with emphasis on the identification/communication of emerging trends for the purpose of driving proactive involvement/communications toward continuous safety improvement.
    • In collaboration with project teams and/or business development, actively leads Safety/Quality support of project prequalification, proposal, and similar activities. Maintain current and accessible all proposal related materials and data.
    • Active participation in the analysis of contract partner safety programs and statistics to ensure they meet Haskell/project expectations as related to prequalification and compliance.
    • Management, development, and maintenance of document control system meeting Haskell, group, project, and/or client requirements. Management inclusive of all policy, procedure, technical, client and similar documentation.
  • Technology / Analytics
    • Serves as the administrator of all Haskell safety data management and incident notification system (INS) platforms. Also works closely with additional Haskell expertise in the incorporation and/or advancement of safety systems into other Haskell supported platforms (i.e., Procore, Haskell BI and similar).
    • Administration of and maintenance of all Haskell safety statistical data. Assure data validity and upload to Haskell BI and other communication platforms. Work closely with Haskell marketing teams to ensure proposal data and other corporate marketing materials are accurate.
    • Management of and maintenance of client/industry prequalification platforms. Conduct regular review of data within the platforms for accuracy and areas of negative impact. Maintain strong relationships with Haskell Risk Management in support of these platforms.
    • Develops and maintains the Safety Group BI Dashboard. Actively evaluates safety data with communication to Haskell Market Leadership. Demonstrated support of Safety Managers on bi-weekly market reporting with emphasis on data analysis and identification of emerging trends.
  • Training / Development
    • Active participation in the Safety/Quality related onboarding process for all new Safety/Quality professionals, Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Assistant Project Managers (APM), Project Managers (PM), and other related roles as directed. Distribution of PPE to each field-based onboarding participant.
    • Maintains active engagement in the development and implementation of Safety/Quality training materials and efforts in collaboration with additional corporate resources (Marketing, Field Technical Training, and similar). Responsible for monitoring of Safety/Quality team member compliance with all assigned training assignments.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain safety and technological competency through continuing education. Acquire at least 24-hours of safety-related training annually (Haskell or approved industry vendor/organization) and provide knowledge deliverable document/training upon completion for the organization's benefit.
    • In collaboration with supervisor, create a development plan to become recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) related to safety measurements, data collection, data analysis and industry safety developments.
    • Development and implementation of at least four (4) safety-related training sessions and/or technical communications for enterprise-wide knowledge expansion.

Education & Years of Experience

  • Associate degree as a minimum, preferably a bachelor's degree in a related field to Safety, Business or Organizational Development.
  • Minimum 5-years of experience with multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining document controls and document management.
  • Experience with coordination, development, and associated analytics of multiple and simultaneous research projects across several disciplines.

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • Thorough understanding of all federal, state, local, and corporate regulations.
  • OSHA 30-hour for the Construction Industry certification preferred.
  • OTI OSHA 500 / 510 and recognized certification through the Bureau of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) preferred.
  • Ability to gain thorough understanding and the ability to assist in the development of APP's for USACE or NAVFAC governed projects as well as the ability to expand knowledge of ICRA, ILSM, and other healthcare industry safety management protocols and procedures. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations and therefore, must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
