Department: MED-Ctr Tran Metabolism Health
Salary/Grade: NEX/9

Job Summary:

The Center for Translational Metabolism and Health (CTMH), part of the Institute for Public Health and Medicine (IPHAM), is seeking a Research Technologist 1 position. The successful applicant will join a lab which focuses on the mechanisms regulating the production of the hormone FGF23 by bone and how these mechanisms are involved in the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease. The applicant should possess good organizational and communication skills and a strong background in molecular biology, including experience in expression and analysis of nucleic acids. The applicant should have experience in working with animals.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, regulations, Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.
  • Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
  • Using an entry level of skill, completes the following activities

Molecular Biology:

  • DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
  • PCR, RT-PCR

Animal:

  • Husbandry
  • Breeding and screening transgenic mice
  • Database management of colony
  • Records test results and may maintain databases.
  • Completes standard and routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, word processing, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of reagents, mice and lab supplies

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Demonstrated laboratory experience;

  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions as required by research protocols;

  • Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets and basic computations;

  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping;

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;

  • Manual dexterity.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.25 - 22.09 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
