Senior Fire Protection Designer

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for independent delivery of BIM and CAD design services for fire protection systems, such as Wet, Dry, and Pre-action, from conceptual design through construction completion with a proven track record of excellence

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute fire sprinkler project design responsibilities independently, ensuring high-quality sizing and layout of piping systems and equipment.

  • Perform complex hydraulic calculations and system layouts for both new construction and retrofit fire sprinkler projects.

  • Utilize AutoCAD, AutoSPRINK, and BIM software to develop precise 2D and 3D models and drawings.

  • Create accurate spool drawings with clear labeling and dimensions to facilitate construction feasibility and pre-fabrication.

  • Conduct field engineering and site surveys to assist with trade coordination, scheduling, and real-time problem-solving.

  • Manage the systems submittal and approval process in collaboration with project management and field staff.

  • Oversee document management by processing trade partner backgrounds and maintaining files on network servers and share sites.

  • Use Bluebeam and other markup tools to coordinate design changes and communicate constructability challenges to the project team.

  • Ensure all deliverables meet ACCO BIM standards for quality and clarity before preparing packages for formal transmittal.

  • Maintain project schedules and deadlines through effective time management and professional collaboration with all stakeholders.

Position Requirements (Work Experience, Skills, Licenses, etc.):

  • Excellent understanding of fire protection fundamentals and constructability, system, and equipment types, building code and industry standards

  • Proficient basic computer software skills (Windows Explorer, Word, Excel, Gmail)

  • Advanced knowledge and/or experience with BIM software such as AutoCAD and AutoSPRINK

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role

Desired:

  • Technical associate or bachelor's Degree preferred

  • NICET II certification or higher preferred

Job Responsibility Level: No direct reports

Travel Requirements: Travel required 0-5% of the time to other office locations.

Hours:

This is a non-exempt position from Monday through Friday. Work hours begin and end between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm with a one-hour break for lunch and two breaks. Eight hours per day is required and other occasional overtime may be necessary for business needs

Competitive Wages:

$39 - $55 per hour. Applicants please note that actual compensation is determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location, among others. The offered wage or salary is only one aspect of an employee's total compensation.
