Position: Building Controls System Technician - Security Systems

Nature and Level of Work:

Perform skilled work at a journey level in the installation, low voltage cabling and wiring, operation, maintenance, service and repair of building automation systems for security cameras, card access systems, security systems and panic/duress systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Installs, maintains, repairs, and tests campus security systems, including video surveillance cameras, electronic access control systems, panic alarms, duress alarms, and related field devices.

Troubleshoots and resolves issues involving security system hardware, devices, controllers, electronic locking mechanisms, and associated equipment.

Coordinates with Information Technology staff on system integrations, network connectivity, device commissioning, and software-related issues.

Responds to service requests, equipment failures, and emergency calls to restore system functionality in a timely manner.
Assists with security system upgrades, renovations, and new installations across campus facilities.

Conducts inspections and acceptance testing of newly installed or modified security systems.

Ensures work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, university standards, and manufacturer specifications.

Coordinates with other campus departments to support campus safety and security operations.

Provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians.

May serve as lead technician on small to medium-sized projects.

Demonstrates knowledge of electronic access control systems, video surveillance equipment, panic and duress alarm systems, and physical security technologies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Shift

7:00 - 3:30, M-F

Minimum Qualifications

Personnel in the Building Controls System Technician employee development program:
* This job is a promotional step from a Building Controls Technician II, and requires successful completion of skill assessments and 1.5 years of experience as a Building Controls System Technician II.
All Personnel:
* A high school graduate with one year of university or technical training in electronics, electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
* Three years of experience in the skilled maintenance, installation and repair of distributed automation systems for buildings and associated electrical and pneumatic control equipment or two years completion of technical training.
- During the first six months of employment, must complete the same skills assessment required of a Building Controls Systems Technician II as outlined in the Building Controls System Technician Employee Development Program.
* Knowledge of building codes is preferred.
* Skill in use and operation of tools, equipment and materials necessary to complete the essential functions of the job.
* Ability to read blueprints, drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
* A valid State of Missouri Driver's License must be held and maintained by incumbents in the position.
* A person working in this classification will need to:
- Grasp, lift, carry and set down objects of moderate weight (50 lbs.) on a regular basis
- Grasp, lift and pull electrical/electronic cabling and wiring on a regular basis
- Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and staging on an occasional basis
- Ability to get into and work in hot, moist, confined spaces on an occasional basis

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of experience in the installation and maintenance of building automation security cameras, card access systems, and security systems. Must be able to work from ladders and mobile elevated work platforms.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $28.00 - $32.00 hourly

Grade: GGS-G
